5.0 out of 5 stars Great paddle for the mixer June 30, 2009
By Dee

I bought this because the paddle that came with my 6qt KitchenAid mixer is NOT dishwasher safe but this one is. I like how it scrapes the sides of the bowl to get better mixing. Before I had to scrape down the sides because, of course, the metal paddle doesn't touch the sides. So far it's held up well and I will never go back to the other one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome invention for mixers! September 14, 2009

This mixer blade is the best thing I have ever had for my cakes and icings ! I hate having to stop and scrape the bowl down during mixing and with this swiping attachment I do not have to! It cleans the sides and bottom as it mixes! You won't regret this purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars Close but no cigar September 2, 2010

This is a big improvement over the beater attachment delivered with my Kitchenaid 6-qt pro mixer.

In fact the mixer is useless to me without the SideSwipe.

Two drawbacks:

1) Cleaning is a chore. It's difficult to remove all the batter from the fins.

2) Plastic beater is quite fagile. I found out the hard way.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality product - even worse customer service April 16, 2012
I used the sideswipe primarily to make cookie dough. I didn't have to scrape down the mixing bowl when I used it, but it didn't hold up well and when I tried to contact customer service they never followed up.

Even though I followed directions to adjust the mixer height, the rubber mixing fins began to tear away from the side swipe. The material just doesn't hold up well.

And forget about customer service. There is none. They obviously don't really care about their customers after they get your money.

I contacted them several times through their customer service email. Every time the auto reply said "it may take extra time to get a response. Please allow two business days to hear back from us."

NINE days later I got a response from a person, asking for more information so they could make it right. I replied immediately and almost 3 weeks later (4 weeks total) there has been no other contact from them despite several follow up emails from me.

A big FAIL here for both the product and their customer service. Too bad. A little customer service could have kept my business and a positive opinion of this company. Their lack of action made it clear that they don't really care.

Although I used the version for the tilt head KitcheAid mixer, I suspect that the material and customer service issues would be the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars company "reorganizing" - questionable warranty support August 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
* Over a week and still no response to my request for an RMA for a warranty replacement.

The SideSwipe blade shattered on the second use while mixing cake batter. It did a great job on creaming the butter and sugar, actually better than the New Metro on my old KitchenAid, but I'm not sure what use this blade is long term if it can't even handle a soft batter. Fortunately, it's still under warranty (albeit a measly 90 days vs. New Metro's 12 month warranty). I'll get it replaced under warranty, but won't buy another. I suggest you thoroughly test this blade before the end of the warranty period.

Edit: just read the other recent reviews and am now wondering if there was a bad batch of these? Also, the company is "reorganizing" and the automated email announcing the reorganization was the only response to my request for an RMA for a warranty exchange. This does not bode well.

So I had the BeaterBlade for my 5 qt tilt-head mixer and loved it. Bought it for my new 6 qt Proline lift bowl model... and it just about knocked the bowl off its perch. Returned it, and decided to try the SideSwipe because I really enjoyed not having to scrape the bowl of my previous mixer. It still knocked the bowl a bit, but I just took a pair of scissors and trimmed down the little fingers by a couple millimeters, and now I'm perfectly happy with it. I actually like it better than the BeaterBlade because it doesn't fling ingredients out of the bowl. You do have to scrape in between the fingers of the SideSwipe afterward, but I'm ok with that. Mostly because it means I get to eat a large portion of the cookie dough or cake batter stuck to it.

Related to the scraping the beater issues, I've noticed that some batters tend to clump around the lower midline of the beater, in the little cavity above the fingers but below the circle. Usually this goes away simply by increasing the mixing speed. If not, all it takes is one good poke with a spatula to break up the glob, and it all gets mixed in.

2.0 out of 5 stars A poor design April 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I have had poor luck with this. When I used it for the first times, It fit the mixer very poorly. Its plastic blades jammed against the sides of the bowl and stuck, released, stuck again, and so on. After a few uses the attachment fit better but after a few more, the pieces that swipe the sides of the bowl began to tear. Moreover I have not been able to use it for creaming or for batters without having to scrape the swipe. So in effect I have traded the irritating but manageable task of scraping the bowl for the far more tedious task of scraping the scraper.

Not a good design.

Having purchased this SideSwipe Paddle product(first time for me to ignore negative reviews and images)I have to say my intuition was correct. The only way that these folks could have had issues, was to misuse the product, or, order the wrong size for the KitchenAid Stand Mixer Bowl size.

For instance, if you do not properly adjust the bowl height to provide loose, but adequate tension of the paddle to the bowl as the paddle is in motion, it will, like any paddle or hook attachment, pretty much self-distruct! Or, mixing a product that is to thick and heavy for the purpose of this paddle (It Is Not A Bread Hook). Typically you would only want to use it for the Creaming Method, light batters and adding chocolate chips or nuts to that mix without causing damage to them.

The item comes with a very clear list of things to do, and not to do. The SideSwipe Paddle is well constructed, and moreover, the #1 recommendation by America's Test Kitchen (They also got it right!).

I have no axe in this battle, except that misinformation provided by the negative reviews could dissuade you from buying a product that could be exactly what you are looking for. I also have to say that there also was a somewhat negative review regarding a manufacturing issue (this can happen), but the customer was then shipped a replacement product by the manufacturer.

I hope this has helped!
