Product Description

Amazon.com

Compatible with the T-Mobile Sidekick PDA/cell phone, the Danger Data Cable lets users connect their Sidekick to a laptop or PC via the machines' USB ports. Note that this product is only a cable, and does not include the CD-ROM software you may need to execute and transfer programs. Also note that while the cable is listed measuring only 5.25 inches long, that's measurement is a shipping-size reference and refers to the cable length when coiled in its package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me reviewers?, October 30, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sidekick Data Cable with USB for T-Mobile Sidekick Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Obviously the people who purchased this cable have know idea what its intended use is.. It is not to sit there and look pretty, it is not a waste of money, it is not a decoration. It is for developers.. If you download the Sidekick SDK, you can hook the SK2 up to your PC and send ringtones and games and applications directly to your sidekick instead of paying tmobile out the butt for this stuff. There are a lot of decent 3rd party utilities that are free, such as apps to give you current gas prices, nfl scores, stocks, weather, etc.. For the price of this cable and how much money it can save you, it's worth it.. But for you cluebies, enjoy paying tmobile for expensive ringtones..

5.0 out of 5 stars [...] Are You kidding me!, May 27, 2005
This review is from: Sidekick Data Cable with USB for T-Mobile Sidekick Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
He is absolutely right in his assesments but he fails to mention several things that you should be aware of.

1)Like where to download the sidekick sdk.
2) The difficulty in getting it to run.
3) Having to download other things such as Java and Ant.
4) And once you get all of that done you have to know how to set environment variables. and path system variables.
5) And you need to know where to go to do all of this.
6) All of this is very difficult. I worked on it for four hours and it is still not working. Be forewarned.

For those of you who want a use for your cable and use Microsoft Outlook not Microsoft Outlook Express ( Why did they name these so closely/ )for calendar, appointments, to do list etc. your cable will work perfectly syncing with a third party $10 downloadable software product endorsed by T-mobile. Go to www.tmobile.com for info or www.intellisync.com. You should have gotten a pamphlet with your phone.

The cable works just fine but when a reviewer decides to go off topic of reviewing the product and making personal comments he/she should follow through with all of the information necessary for you to make an intelligent purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars What's the point?, May 5, 2004
This review is from: Sidekick Data Cable with USB for T-Mobile Sidekick Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
If you received the USB cable with your Sidekick you already know that the only thing you can really do with this cable is watch it sit in the box. There are no connectivity applications available at this time that utilize the USB cable for the Sidekick. No sync functions, no downloadable ringtones, no nothing! Makes you wonder why they even included it with some of the devices ;-/ If you are thinking of getting a cable in the hopes of playing with these types of things on your Sidekick, take my advice, save the six bucks and go buy yourself some lunch. It will be a far better deal and infinitely more satisfying!
