3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful insights, but some serious limitations
I've taken a number of personality profiler tests, the best-known of which may be the Meyers-Briggs type indicator (INTJ, in case it matters to you). I came across this book and its related website through JobHuntersBible.com. Since I highly respect the latter's "What Color is Your Parachute?", I decided to give the (free) online ANSIR test a try.

I agree...

If you are looking for an "inside body" experience, do the test then read this book!

The test was hard and it took me more than an hour to finish. Then when I got the results I adjusted my scores until the answers were more true for me. The test is an eye opener but that was nothing compared to all that the full story told me. I don't know where the author S. Seich learned all this detailed information about people but he nailed me better than my own mother or wife could. This is important information and I urge anyone who is looking for career guidance or searching for love to read this book today. I never realized until I read this book that things about me I'd taken for granted are really the things that I should trust and lean on to be successful. Life purpose is something I never thought about until now. Everybody has one and thanks to this book I'm certain about my own life purpose and how to go about what the authro calls fulfilling it. Every man, woman, and child would be better off they understood themselves better. It makes so much sense when you see it in writing I'm surprised that I've lived 31 years and never heard of it. You'll feel good about yourself and learn something that will change your life when you read this book. Do yourself a favor! Take the test first then buy the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlock Your Life Purpose, October 22, 2003
This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)
3 Sides of You by S. Seich is a unique book built around a personality test that is available only on the web. The test itself is called the Profiler™ which is a self-perception inventory. The Profiler™ contains three sections of 56 questions (168 questions total) which test how you Think, Work, and Love. When you've finished the test, the results are a 3-sided profile and Boss Style. The possible combinations are 2,744, which makes for a very individualized assessment.

In the ANSIR system (ANSIR stands for A New Standard In Relating), an individual is assigned a Profile Boss. Boss determines Life Purpose; that is, this purpose draws together innate strengths and talents of dominant support Styles (the other 2 Styles in the profile that aren't Boss) and pretty much dictates and shapes these Styles toward self fulfillment. Life Purpose is never Thinking--only Working and Emoting. This is the drive and juice for our individual purposes. Five of the Styles find fufillment through work (Idealist, Visionary, Healer, Philosopher, and sometimes Evokateur) and the rest of the Styles find fulfillment through the Emoting realm. Since it seems that the areas the individuals are most unhappy in are work and love, it makes sense that the Life Purpose Boss would be in either of those two realms.

According to the book, Thinking is a discernible, predictable pattern of balancing and applying knowledge. How individuals process order, solve problems, and rationalize outcomes. Working is the conscious application of knowledge according to acquried skills and innate abilities of individuals. Emoting is an unconscious response pattern guided by unique intangibles, such as emotions, feelings, and nature. Boss (Life Purpose) is your profiled "why"--your reason for being.

The 14 Boss Styles in the ANSIR system are as follows:

The Physicals Extremists; Realist Keenest intellect is through physical interaction.
The Instinctives Scintillator; Sentinel Keenest intellect is from muscular feedback/gut smarts.
The Logicals Diligent; Sage Keenest intellect is rationalization.
The Practicals Eccentrik; Idealist Keenest intellect is solution determination.
The Emotionals Kinsmen; Empath Keenest intellect is emotion sensitivity.
The Intuitives Visionary; Evokateur Keenest is emotion-based guidance.
The Spiritualists Healer; Philosopher Keenest intellect is self-reliance.

I've have taken many personality tests on the web and on paper, but I've never encountered a personality system that's based on self-perception and self-propulsion, and that concentrates on the individual as knowing what's best and why. Also, the Ansir system is heavy on what's right with you as opposed to why you're defective and need "fixed". Ansir maintains that there's nothing wrong with you--that it's a matter of removing reticence, and living your life as born and meant.

3 Sides of You: Unlocking The Way You Think, Work, and Love is a hefty 516 pages that gives you indepth and practical information on not only your own profile, but all of the ANSIR Styles. Sections in the book include indepth Profiles for each of the 14 Styles--in each of the 3 realms, as well as thorough information on Boss/Life Purpose, work attributes and occupation matches to plan a more fulfilling career, and Style compatibility.

If you take the ANSIR Profiler™, but find your results inaccurate, this could be for several reasons. A main reason is that you've been living someone else's life with someone else's ideas of what's best for you. You are encouraged to re-take the test until it fits, and the book is very helpful for understanding the profound and unique differences among the 14 Styles if you need more clarity on your profile.

I've owned this book since it first came out, as well as its precursor Rare Conversations that is no longer available. I've also been a student of personality for as long as I can remember, and I've yet to come across a personality system that is as affirming, eerily accurate, thorough, and insightful as the ANSIR system.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this book if you want to understand self and others, and if you've been short-changing yourself by living a mediocre life--and not living as born and meant.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book saved my life!, March 22, 2002

This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)
I'm a middle aged man who lost his job in a downsizing and was struggling to figure out what to do next. I came across ANSIR, took the test and bought the book. It showed me the real ME, and for the very first time, I realized I'd been pursuing a life that simply wasn't "me". I've since found a more natural occupation and am (so far) living happily ever after. I STRONGLY recommend this book to anyone at a crossroads in their life, regardless of what that might be.

This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)
This well-written, well-organized and deeply insightful book gives you the opportunity to see yourself in a way you've never seen you before. Many people feel that no one understands them or they are "freaks". This book shows you why you are you, what is important for you to be you, and how you can fit into the scheme of things. It gets into life purpose and skills unique to different types of folks. For me, reading this gave me a great "Ah ha" and realized that my casting about for a path was for a purpose, and helped me more clearly plan by accounting for my true self in the process. It was a wonderful mirror to use. I recommend this book for anyone interested in better understanding themselves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful insights, but some serious limitations, February 21, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)

I agree with the other reviewers that the results seemed extremely accurate to me. Recognizing my "Profile Boss" has given me some valuable insight. I'm glad I took the time to take the test.

That being said, there are some very serious limitations to this book and test:

1. The explanations of the ruling concepts (Boss Profile, Thinking/Working/Emoting Styles) are extremely abstract and not well articulated. What you see on the website is about the sum total of it. There are a couple more paragraphs on the Boss in the book, but don't expect more clarity. The good news is that if you find the website crystal clear, you won't have a problem with the book.

2. The bulk of the book is taken up by Profile descriptions, but there's very little "path-finding" content. This book is pretty much only about figuring out "who you are." If that's all you want, you'll be happy. If you want action ideas, direction suggestions, pitfalls to avoid, or thoughts on how to cope, you won't find much substance. There are one-sentence statements about each Profile's Achilles' Heel, as well as each Life Purpose. There are also two-page summaries of "Headhunter Shorthand" that suggest "Role Matches," "Work Contributions," and similar information. The Heel and Purpose sections were obviously too short, while I found the Shorthand section to be all restated info from the Profiles.

3. Organization is abysmal. I know this doesn't reflect on content, but it sure makes reading the book a chore. For example, there are Profile Snapshots, Profile Briefs, and Profile In-depths. The Snapshots and Briefs are verbatim exerpts from the In-Depths, but for some reason are both separate chapters. As mentioned above, the Achilles' Heel and Life Purpose sections are just one-sentence statements, but instead of being incorporated into their respective Profiles, they're piled up in the back of the book.

4. This book isn't all you have to buy if you want to apply what its 450+ pages tell you. For actionable plans, you need to buy Step 4, the Workforce DNA Report. You'll have to read the description on the website to decide if it would have value for you. I won't be spending the money, given that I can't figure out what this report actually IS or DOES.

5. Grammar and writing style are really, really bad. I know, not everyone cares about this. There are times when grammar and style really matter to content, though, and I ran across a staggering number in this book. Example: "Visionary starts at logic, then moves beyond it's did it, done it limits." I'm still perplexed by what that means. Or what about this odd sentence: "They can be totally unabashed about asking questions, regardless of how simple or inane their query doth seem to others." I think I understand it, but... "doth?" Where was their copy editor, or even their MSWord grammar check? An unprofessional product like this book makes me seriously question the company's credibility.

In short, this book and test will offer you good personal insight, if you can slog through its organization and style. You won't get any forward direction without buying more stuff, though, and if you're a fan of "Eats, Shoots and Leaves," this book may well drive you to violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy without taking test first - which can't be found?, January 9, 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)
I'm writing this with disappointment. Recently, I was searching for the perfect career assessment test and came across ANSIR. I really liked what I read about it, and saw many great reviews and recommendations of Sandra Seich's work. So I was really looking forward to taking the self-perception test, as my life is in need of a major shift. But I couldn't find the test anywhere. The Ansir website appears defunct, and I couldn't find any reproductions of the test online. In hopes of taking the test in the book, I purchased it through Amazon. Well, sadly, its not in there either! After the introduction and table of contents, the book directs you to [...] (the defunct website) and says the test is only available there. Heartbroken, I stopped reading at that spot. The rest of the book describes the 14 Personality Styles and is meant to explain your test results in further detail.

So if your like me, and only searching for the test, don't buy this. It won't do you much good. I only recommend it if you want to research Ansir and its methods (which appears to be quite extensive). Even though I only read the introduction, I'm giving this 5 stars to give positive attention to Ansir. After hearing how its changed so many lives, I hope the test gets restored and will soon resurface somewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ansir, March 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Sides of You: Unlocking the Way You Think, Work, and Love (Paperback)
3 Sides of You helps you identify your 3 of your dominant personality styles in Thinking, Working, and Emoting categories.

The idea is to help you understand how you think, work, and love. You take a series of 3 self-perception tests, and then read the types that result. If they don't match, check the test, you are asked to type yourself--the results are dependent on you.

If you want to give this a try before you buy, you can try out a limited version of the test at Ansir.com, at the very least, I can tell you you'll enjoy giving it a try.
