4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Companion EP to "Show" Album
In 1993 the Cure issued "Show", essentially a "greatest hits live" album. This EP runs 5 tracks, 19 min. and covers 4 tracks not on the "Show" album.

The initial track is "Tape (Intro)", a 3 min. instrumental that is not "live", not sure where it fits in with the "Show" to be honest. "Just Like Heaven" is the only overlap with "Show", and meant to be the "single" off of...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Companion EP to "Show" Album, June 1, 2003
This review is from: Sideshow (Audio CD)
In 1993 the Cure issued "Show", essentially a "greatest hits live" album. This EP runs 5 tracks, 19 min. and covers 4 tracks not on the "Show" album.

The initial track is "Tape (Intro)", a 3 min. instrumental that is not "live", not sure where it fits in with the "Show" to be honest. "Just Like Heaven" is the only overlap with "Show", and meant to be the "single" off of "Show", it's a great song.

The remaining tracks are from the same Auburn Hills, MI show that produced the "Show" album, but are not on that album. "Fascination Street" has been a concert staple of the Cure ever since it came out on "Disintegration" and shows up here in great form. "The Walk" and "Let's Go to Bed" are familiar tunes, and should've been on "Show" but presumably left off due to CD length restrictions. Great tunes, though, and they showcase the Cure in great form live. All in all, a great EP.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good review for sideshow, December 12, 2001

I think all the others who have reviewed this disc have been way too unfair. I love the recording quality and the band did a great performance of some beautiful songs like my fave "just like heaven". Robert smiths vocals are as good live as in the studio. together they all make a swirling, non-defined beautiful colourful sound that you can sink into. those who enjoy the original versions of the songs featured here should have no reason to not love this disc as i do.

5.0 out of 5 stars all bow to the cure, September 3, 1998

the cure's music is untouchable in its depth and beauty. anyone who disagrees with this has obviously never been in love or been in pain. i recommend every single recording ever put out by the cure, especially Faith. long live the cure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick, fun dosage of live Cure, October 1, 2001

Sideshow is a worthy pick-up if you're looking for an inexpensive and quick dose of the Cure in concert, but is mainly for Cure completionists like myself. It has four upbeat Cure classics, arguably better than the material on 'Show', its big brother. Why 'Just Like Heaven' and 'Let's Go To Bed' were left off of 'Show' is beyond me. The material is very good, despite its length, especially the finale, 'Let's Go To Bed.' It's actually more entertaining than 'Show'. But for the best live Cure stuff try 1984's 'Concert' or get the Paris 96' bootleg from the Swing Tour, with its 30-song setlist (note, note Paris from 1993).

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish Tour Memories, November 25, 2008

To me "Wish Tour" era Cure were at their peak, if they had stopped touring and recording, it would have been the equivalent of Mike Tyson retiring undefeated. This maxi single is cool because it includes the tape intro which is awesome in and of itself. If your a diehard the Import Cure Show version is a double disc and includes everything save the encore set as seen on the Show concert video. All brilliant stuff however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Quick Dose (sorry) of Live Cure, March 3, 2000

If you're not in the mood for SHOW (and you definitely need to be in the mood to really enjoy it), this might be a better solution. Four poppy Cure songs performed live. Nothing drastic's done to them (unless you count the addition of three hours to "Let's Go to Bed"), but they're a fun listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars just a little tidbit, March 13, 2002
This review is from: Sideshow (Audio CD)
ok so im sure that instead of making a very long two cd live thing(wich is soo 70s) he took out some songs and made it a single disc so if youre a cure fan the ep has some great missing songs like fascionation street the new songs sound ok but there seems to be more energy in the older songs but if you dont feel like hunting this down since it was a limited edition i found the songs on a expanded version of show and i wasnt even looking for it cause i didnt know it existed! so its quite a treat for a true fan

Look, the Cure is the best act on the planet. If you are looking for mindless "catchy" pop tunes, go get the Spice Girls disc. If you are looking for increadible music and meaningful lyrics, the Cure has few peers. I recomend EVERY recording, so take off diss-boy. -Aaron Stranahan

2.0 out of 5 stars Exploiting the fans, January 3, 2001

First off, let me explain that I own every one of the Cure's albums, a couple of singles, and every collection I can find that features a single Cure song. Plus the Glove, and the Banshees albums that Bob plays on. So it's not like I hate the Cure, right? But they are one of those bands that, no matter how much you like their music, you have to hate their attitude towards their fans. Basically, they put out a real studio album every three or four years, and in between they release a bunch of concerts, collections, remix albums, and assorted other junk. This CD is one of those stinkers, a little tidbit designed to complement the already-bad concert recordings Show and Entreat. To start with, the Cure are not a concert band. Their concerts are usually pretty bland, and the RECORDINGS of their concerts are even more lifeless. Some great studio music just doesn't quite work in concert, and the music Bob writes is a perfect example. In addition, every one of these tracks is available as a B-side on some single. And since the band has a history of producing great singles, any fan will find it worthwhile to go and track down those singles. Every one of the singles features four songs, usually the A-side, a non-album track, and either two remix tracks or two live songs. Find them and forget this.
