Not Morphine, but that's okay!,

Okay, naturally comparisons are going to come along pitting this band against the late great Morphine. There are some moments when that shines through more than others (e.g., In My Head,St. Benedict's Marching Band and, in particular, A Little Strange [with uncredited vocals that sound A LOT like Mark Sandman]), but all in all Morphine couldn't have made this album - only Twinemen can really own this music. I think Laurie Sargent's position in the band will become more prominent over time; despite doing lead vocals on several songs she otherwise seems a bit in the shadows. Twilight is simply the most beautiful track on the album and clearly a standout song along with A Little Strange. I didn't discover Morphine until after their demise, don't make the same mistake with Twinemen.

If you're looking for something just like Morphine you might be disappointed. But I'm a big Morphine fan and I also enjoy this album.

Best Sideshow Around,

The fusion of rock music with jazz and blues just doesn't get any better than this. Born from the ashes of Morphine this band had me from the moment I heard 'Spinner' from their first CD. 'Sideshow' is lighter in tone but just as good. 'Twilight' is simply gorgeous, a jazz-tinged love ballad with a great melody; you'll be humming it all day once you've heard it. For me, though, the highlight is 'I Slept Through It', a terrific social comment on the way some people go through life. There is one forgettable track but you can't be perfect. But being close to perfect ain't bad.
