5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous, March 9, 2005

This review is from: Sidney Bechet 1941 1944 (Audio CD)
This volume in the Chronological Classics series collects two Victor sessions from 1941, a V-Disc date from 1943, the fantastic Blue Note session from 1944, and a Black & White session from 1944. The inclusion of "Blue Horizon" from the Blue Note date makes this disc essential: it is one of the most amazing jazz records ever made. "Twelfth Street Rag" from the second Victor date, with Charlie Shavers on trumpet, is terrific, as is the ballad version of "What is this thing called love" from the same date. Everything on this CD is top-drawer Bechet. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Sidney Bechet 1941 1944 (Audio CD)
This is one of the better Bechet discs on the Chronological series. It features about a half dozen longer tracks (over 4 mins.) It's worth having.
