5.0 out of 5 stars They just keep getting better
I don't know how the author does it, but these books just keep getting better. In the first half of the story, Soren and his six friends are sent on a top-secret mission back to St. Aggie's. While they are there, the book gets a bit confusing (St. Aggie's is a confusing place, after all), but after a thrilling action scene and a subsequent surprise reunion with an old...

1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the War Story ?
I must say the last few chapters in the book were a let down. There was this great build up to the finale and I was so looking forward to a great Owl battle in the skies. Instead, the battle ended with a whimper. Nyra was going to attack Soreen and all of a sudden, Kludd said to retreat and that was the end of the battle. What an anti climax.

I was...

I don't know how the author does it, but these books just keep getting better. In the first half of the story, Soren and his six friends are sent on a top-secret mission back to St. Aggie's. While they are there, the book gets a bit confusing (St. Aggie's is a confusing place, after all), but after a thrilling action scene and a subsequent surprise reunion with an old friend (I'm not telling who, so give it up), you'll be riveted. By the end, the owls have been through a war, exposed a possible spy, and lost someone close to them (but once again, I won't spoil it for you). Although warfare between the good and evil owls is a major theme here, don't worry about reading chapter after chapter of battle scenes. Rather than simple fighting, the war is waged mostly through strategy, so it's fun and intriguing to read, not repetitive. I also really liked how the author switched to the vantage point of Kludd, aka Metal Beak, at a few intervals. It was interesting to learn more about what made him the way he is.
If I have one complaint (I say "if" because it's really more of a comment), it's that Ezylryb's Winston Churchill-inspired "speeches", while moving, seem to be of a different tone than the rest of the book. They're a cool addition overall, they just don't fit quite right.
Overall, this book completely riveted me, just like the previous three. If you liked those, buy this immediately. If you haven't read those yet, buy them and then buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars good, June 8, 2004

I really like this series. The author gives these owls such great personalities and makes you really care.

In this book, Ezlyryb is back and Kludd is mad. Soren and the "Clan of Clans" must go to the dreaded place of St. Aggies to find out weather St. Aggies and the Pure ones have joined forces. Also, The pure ones plan a major attact on the Great Tree.

Characters are developed more. Otulissa is becoming a lot more llikable, we see Twilight become a little more than war, and of course Soren (the main character) is developed more. My only problem is Eglantine, Soren's sister, is almost non-existant.

Yet another good book in this great series. I cant wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soren lover Dewlap hater, August 14, 2005
The Siege is the best book in the series! There's two adventures in one, with Soren and the rest of the Chaw of Chaws at St Aggies and the battles in the end of the book. I would not recommend reading this book without reading the rest of the series.

Before I read this book, I knew nothing whatsoever about owls, except that they are nocturnal. Now I love owls. This book is one of the best. The first got me hooked, and I'm hoping to get the fifth and sixith soon. To everyone out there, you HAVE to read this book! (Along with all the others too)

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Read and Learn About Owl Behavior, October 1, 2005
Ms. Lasky does a great job with characterizing the many owls in the story, and the plot keeps the reader turning page after page. Yet all the while, she educates the reader on the natural behaviors of owls. Thus, the reader is thrusted into a great piece of fiction, but still learns factual information on these beautiful creatures. I also highly recommend reading the series from the beginning. Ages 9-12 will enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful!, October 12, 2005

This is a detailed, fast paced novel that is really hard to put down. As you may have gleaned from what I titled this, It is a VERY suspenseful book involving murderous owls who think they are superior to all others, a pitiless "academy" trying to control all other owls, and the noble gaurdians of ga'hoole, trying to stop both crazed groups. Though I recommend you read them in order, Lasky catches you up on what happened in the other books. For all you owl lovers, this is definitely the book for you. Complete with sientific names, the character list at the back shows you the type of owls Soren and the other characters in the book are.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting adventure, May 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
The Siege was great. I thought that it was cool because there was a lot happening in the story. Actually, there might have been too much going on, so that it was a little harder to keep up with the story's events than the earlier books. Before you read The Siege, you also must read the first three books in order: The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue.

The Chaw of chaws is on a mission to spy on St. Aggies to see if they are still mindless with flecks. Mission succesful. Otulissa lies to them about the flecks and finds that they hate the pure ones and are brutal enemies of them. On the way back to the Great Tree, they find that the pures have settled on Cape Glaux and are planning to invade the tree. The Great Tree must be ready for The Great Siege.

I think everybody should give this series a try. When people pick up this book, they think, "who thinks of owls when writing a good teens' book." Well that's why Kathryn Lasky did it. It's something different. She took ordinary owls, added some true facts and turned it into a real life scenario to make an excellent adventure. There's also another book coming in August called The Shattering, book #5 of The Guardians of Ga'Hoole, by Kathryn Lasky. I can't wait to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Extrordinary, December 8, 2004
By
Soren has just retruned from his rescue mission. They are succesfull, but it's not enough for Soren. He now knows who Metal Beak really is inside, his own sibbling, his own brother, Kludd. Kludd is out for revenge and his armies are building, preparing to launch a powerful attack on Ga'Hoole, hoping to over rule the Guardians, and take over the owl kingdoms.

Out for revenge, Kludd stops at nothing to prepare for the worst, and possibly the best, battle against Ga'Hoole. Mean while, in the canyons of St. Aggie's, Soren and the Chaw of Chaws are snooping around the area, looking for a conection between The Pure Ones and St. Aggie's. Soren and his friends must pull together, resist moonblinking, and most of all defeat the Pure Ones or die trying..

I was absoluetly stunned when reading this book. The characters have unique personalities that make them almost real, and the detail is stunning. There are many surprises in this book, and I found myself gasping at some places. The best so far in this wonderful series by Katheryn Lasky.

I really liked this book. The owls were really great! Many of them had their own jobs, just like real people. I think the author did a good job giving factual information about owls.

I really think everyone should read this book, especially kids!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Siege by Jake, May 26, 2004
By
Denise (Amherst, New Hampshire United States) - See all my reviews
I chose this book not only because I wanted to try and get closer to finishing the series, but because I knew it was going to be a great book. Just like the other three before it. The author, Kathryn Lasky, has an ability to hook the reader, and give detail to every thing and every character.

The book the Siege is about Soren's brother Kludd, swearing revenge on Soren and the Great tree. While all Kludd's plans were happening Soren and his friends, or the chaws of all chaws have been assigned by Boron and Baran on a mission to St. Aggies. Soren and Glyfie still have bad memories about St. Aggies, and doubts about going. If they go, will they come back alive with St. Aggie info, as well as news about an attack being planned by the pure ones?

Read this book and discover the author's ability to hook, as well as her detail. This book also has real facts about owls, on the back of the book. he author even tells you what species the owls are. This book is just a great book.
