Awful Menu - Poor Options - Many Useless Features,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Siemens CT66 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I got this unit as a replacement for my old Siemens C61 (so I could use the same set of chargers I've accumulated over the years for Siemens phones, and add a camera). As far as look and feel is concerned, the CT66 is a step backwards from the C61 - I just don't like the way it looks or feels in my hands/pocket compared to the C61.
However, the biggest problem I have is with the menu system - you have to go mega-levels deep, to get to anything that I would want to set (like the alarm for instance). What does appear on the top level menus, and as single key activated items are totally useless services to me. Then, one is not given the option to re-program the single-key functions - what a piece of junk. Siemens has totally sold out to the service provider (Cingular in this case), and doesn't provide much of anything in user-friendly options... my previous-generation C61 was much better in this regard. Stock ringtone and graphics options are junk... again, I was much happier with my C61. The camera seems to work... but, I still am going to have to buy a USB adapter to get the pictures off the darn thing - it should COME with a computer interface! UPDATE: I was able to buy a data cable for $9.95+SH+Tax from Cingular "on clearance" (everyone else wants about $35+SH+Tax). Cingular provided basically zero information on the product, so I had no way of knowing whether I could get it to work with the Siemans software... lo and behold, the GAMBLE WORKED! I've been able to get pictures off the device, and download files into it. Unfortunately, the quality of the photos is terrible, and the WAV files I downloaded into the device wouldn't work. Only in "emergency" situations would I consider using the camera feature of the phone. If you are going to want to take a picture, do yourself a favor, and bring a decent digital camera. In other words, don't waste your money getting the data cable, unless you had an emergency situation in which you just HAD to get a picture off the phone. The money you would spend getting the data cable would be better used towards buying a decent camera. My "love affair" with Siemens products may be souring, after extremely good experiences with previous generation A56 and C61 products, the CT66 has turned out to be a disappointment - in many ways, due to Cingular's positioning and marketing of the product.

I want to throw it,

This phone is not ergonomical for big human hands and it's easily dropped. Once you drop the phone then your done. It will never work the same again. It usually takes a few careless moments to destroy a phone. This phone interferes with my radios and computer when I place it near them, it causes them(radio and computer) to release a high pitch squeal of some sort.
It looks, feels and sounds like junk. Run away, run far away from this offer.

Unnecessarily complex!,

I was really excited about getting this phone especially since I'm not happy using a flip phone. Sadly, trying to figure out this phone is almost impossible. Common things like Address Book seem to be buried under several layers of menu. It's weirdly complex to try and figure out how to work it. In addition, it shut itself off in the middle of calls. I'm returning mine.

Best Brand Ever,

I'm absolutely in love with SIEMENS. Best phone brand i've ever tried. Ignore the reviews from the technology retarted morons. If you're intelligent enough to push buttons and read, then you can use this phone. It's not as hard as they make it seem. It's got great games, so-so picture quality, the joystick (rather than the up/down buttons) is so much easier and way cooler. This phone is durable (trust me, i've put it through hell, and it still works perfectly) and small. I highly recommend this phone to anyone with half a brain.

I have use so many cel phone brands. LG is the best so far. This siemens phone has all features you can imagine. However, the built-in speaker isn't lond enough. There are also some operating difficulties as well. I have to carry the manual around in the first week. Usually, with other brands, you can just play with the phone and go from there. For example, when using speed dial, firstly you have to push 5 and hold, the speed dial list shows up, then push the speed dial number you assigned. Unfortunately, the manual which comes in its box isn't the most recently released. [...] It's just complicated to look in Siemens website and find the CT66 manual because it's already discontinued. enjoy...
