The Gigabite One seems to have had a fireware upgrade that increases the distance limitation for the bluetooth connection. My unit locks to the bluetooth signal as far away as 30ft.
Anyone who uses just a cellfone for their primary household service in a home or apartment any bigger than a studio knows the Prime Rule -- when the cell rings, unless you have had it Crazy-Glued to your body, it will be in a room where you are NOT, and usually the one farthest away from you...in a two story house, definately on the OTHER floor. This unit lets me interface my cell service to my entire home system -- we have standard telephone extensions parallel wired to every room. And the HUGE plus, with the Gigaset One, I get to talk on a real telephone phone that I can hold firmly in one hand against my ear and mouth as it was designed, unlike cell phones which are designed for small size but not for comfortable telephone conversation. Now I am able to use the cell phone provider but still get that service extended to those standard telephones with their comfortably designed handsets. In fact as far as clarity, I was very surprised that the sound quality is BETTER than with my cell -- how is that possible? I attribute it to the fact that I am using a REAL telephone handset where they are able to use much more robust speakers in the ear piece instead of the miniscule things in the cell phone so the sound is better reproduced. The cell never sounded this good.
I think the product will be the answer for all those young people just starting out for whom paying two phone service providers is just too expensive. Not to mention in this economy, many people will be thinking long and hard about getting rid of one of those two services and of the two, the more likely one to go will be their land-line service as the cell is the more versatile of the two. The Gigaset One certainly gives you the best of both worlds -- cell service versatility but standard land-line comfort in many rooms of their homes.
Minor negatives that they could easily fix: 1) allowing the user to assign the distinctive rings to each of the incoming services and making them more distinctive. 2) Also to be able to assign which service is the default when you pick up an extension would be nice. Other than that, I totally love it and already don't see how I could ever have done without it.
BTW, installation was basically a matter of just pluging it in -- very very user-friendly.
