Amazon.com Product Description

The Siemens Gigaset S455 DECT 6.0 digital cordless phone system was developed with convenience and versatility in mind. DECT 6.0 technology provides interference-free communication, brilliant voice quality, and enhanced security. Ideal for large families or small to medium-size offices, the system comes with great features including a built-in 35-minute digital answering machine, and a 150-entry phonebook directory. The system can be expanded to include up to six handsets, ensuring everyone in the office has access to a phone or everyone in the house can talk to grandma when she calls home to swap stories about her Norwegian vacation.

The handset comes with a six-line, easy-to-read full-color 128x128 display. The screen relays useful information such as call history, current date and time, and last call length. With the robust display and the easy-to-use keypad, users can even send SMS text messages and send emails via SMS (both carrier dependent). To make texting easy, the handset comes with an easy text entry program--an ideal feature for heavy text users. For added convenience, the system supports up to three separate SMS inboxes (carrier dependent). The handsets come with five pre-loaded ringtones and a bright LED light to notify of incoming calls.

The system also features a room monitoring function so you can easily keep an ear on your children when they should be sound asleep. Additionally, thanks to the Gigaset S455's hands-free function, you can make a call when preparing a meal or type an email while on a conference call. Other great features include VoIP capabilities, and a robust 50-meter indoor (300 meters when outdoors) cordless range. Featuring multi-lingual menu prompts (in 19 languages), the handset features enough battery strength to support up to 13 hours of talk time and up to 168 hours of standby time.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best cordless phones on the market, March 2, 2007
By
T. Seiwert (Chicago, IL, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Siemens S455 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone System with Ansering Machine (Office Product)
Having lived in Europe I soon realized in the US that the majority of cordless phones sold here are of poor quality. The Siemens S455 is a pleasant surprise, which may be due to the fact that this phone is designed and manufactured in Germany.

Briefly, I have only had this phone for 3 days - but this is my experience so far:
- Voice quality both by handset and speakerphone is outstanding
- DECT is the new emerging phone standard in the US works very well and provides excellent range without any Wifi interference. It is nice to see this standard now in the US and I suspect that it will take over the prime spot from 2.4 and 5.8Ghz phones. It is also secure
- The colour screen is beautiful with a good resolution (128*128), bright, and easily legible
- The user interface is good; it resembles that of a cell phone; once you get used to it is excellent. All functions are done via the headset.
- The design is sleek with a platinum-metallic finish (it is plastic though under it); the headset is light, and ergonimically lies in your hand
- Standard NiMH rechargable batteries are used, which makes it easy to replace.
-Furthermore one can add 5 headsets (total of 6 phones), but in order cover a larger range there can be up to 4 base stations to connect additional headsets, which should satisfy even a warehouse with coverage.

Things I don't know yet:
- I have not yet used the answering machine, so no comment.
- In other parts of the world Siemens sells USB M34 adapter for the computer, which acts as a additional base station and provides access to VOIP services like Skype in addition to the landline. This is not (yet?) available in the US, and I don't know how well it works. This could though be a nice addition especially for oversea calls.

Overall I give this phone 5 stars, because I have not seen any other phone of such quality in the US. It's sleek, good coverage and sound quality, and is well built. Certainly worth the extra $20-30 in comparison to other brands.

Lastly I would prefer this phone over the more expensive E45 series. It's the same phone but the S45 series is nicer, costs slightly less, and uses standard batteries (E45 uses Siemens proprietary - $$ if need to replace). Only if you need the extra rubberized and sturdy built I would consider the E45.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, Stylish Too!, June 8, 2007

This review is from: Siemens S455 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone System with Ansering Machine (Office Product)
Great Phone, Stylish Too!

I bought these phones after extensive research on a substitute for my Uniden 5.8 Ghz cordless phones. I was never convinced of the `no interference with wireless networks' claim on my Uniden, as the router always interfered with the phone, no matter what I did. That's why I decided to move to DECT, but there are not that many DECT phones around yet, so you will have limited choices

Siemens was the only brand offering DECT phones that were both, decent in term of functions and quality and yes, stylish and sleek. Call me picky but I thing phones are another piece of furniture, and they can kill your décor easily. They should blend in, and this phone was perfect for what I wanted. Needless to say Siemens won a design award on this phone

Finally, I found a phone not affected by a router. I have talked on this phone a few centimeters from the router and there is no change on the voice quality, which is always crisp and clear. The phones doesn't have all the bells & whistles some other phones have, just the basic stuff and some nice useful functions, but at least in my case, my old Uniden had more functions than these phones, functions I never used by the way. This phone has all the features you will need: hands-free, call waiting, caller ID, headset plug, directory, seamless synchronization with base and other phones in the group, internal calling, etc. One think you won't find in other phones and you'll find here is that it uses standard rechargeable batts, nice if you use the phone a lot and want to keep it for a while

I agree with some that accessing the functions can be cumbersome, and Siemens had sacrificed some more ergonomically designed keys to fit the stylish design, but you will have no problem once you learn how to use the little function wheel and thinking you are dialing a cell phone, not a phone. In many ways, these phones resemble more a cell phone than a traditional cordless phone. Read some complains here also about the weight of the phone and yes, its very light, but that's not necessarily a problem, although it can be perceived as cheap constructing materials. The phone look like any other phone in the market, not too cheap, not made from steel. They look a bit more vulnerable than older Siemens phones, may be, but I won't know that until it falls to the floor. My old Uniden looked like a safe box, solid and sturdy, and fell to the floor from about two feet and that was the end of the screen

Pricey? Absolutely, if you consider a 30-40 dollar premium excessive, and you will find cheaper phones that can do the same thing this phone do and some more, the same way you can sleep on a 200 dollar bed or a 5,000 dollar bed, or the same way a cheap car will take you from A to B as a very expensive car will do. The quality of the voice and the overall phone is great, and you won't find a more stylish phone in the market

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, April 9, 2007
This review is from: Siemens S455 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone System with Ansering Machine (Office Product)
I just received this phone and I am amazed with the quality. I previously owned the Siemens Gigaset 4215 for 5 years and I never had a problem. But this phone is so light and smaller that it almost feels like a Cell phone. It is very easy to operate, which I like to. I am also glad that Siemens is sellin in the US again.
