Book Description

August 1, 2009 Harlequin Historical (Book 956)

Powerful Sam Pickett is used to getting his way. So he is baffled when Kate Wells, a feisty little hellion who steps between him and a bullet in the back, isn't remotely interested in becoming his latest plaything--despite the fact she's poor, with an aunt and blind sister to support!

Sam's life is transformed by this compassionate, hardworking woman--who is strangely cynical for one so young. He fully intends to make Kate his bride, but that could prove to be the greatest challenge of his life!

1.0 out of 5 stars High Sierra Bride, October 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sierra Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
BIG disappointment. I really loved Kernan's Winter Woman and was so looking forward to her latest. Unfortunately, the adventure wasn't really there, the character development and the plot were weak, and the book was just a routine formula of so many other recent romance stories I've read lately. The era in California around the Gold Rush is an amazingly fascinating historical time, and there weren't many historical details in the book. Seems like the author short shrifted this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like hero Sam, October 23, 2009
This review is from: Sierra Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
The story started off very sweetly-despite the fighting going on - but hero's like Sam aren't very appealing when all they like to do is praise themselves and dwell on how rich they are, how handsome, and how many girls would drop everything to have dinner with them, and they are shocked when the heroine doesn't find them irresistible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Real loser story, July 30, 2011
This review is from: Sierra Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
RT was generous giving this story three stars, which usually means it's a so-so story. This one was way off the mark. The writing is awful. It's confusing and hard to follow with awkward sentence structure, making the style rough with poor dialogue transitions. When I have to reread a sentence or paragraph five times and still don't get it, there's something terribly wrong. First the story was dull as they come. It was copywritten in 2009 and the spine wasn't creased. New Book wasn't labeled on the spine either, which told me I'm not the only one who thinks this author's work is not up to standards. If the first two chapters are any indication of what's to come, I can only guess what the rest was like. I just didn't have the stomach or the time. My daughter tried reading it as well, but she was so frustrated with it, she threw it against the wall and broke an antique lamp chimney because of it! I was considering running it over with my car, but it's not worth the $6 it would take to replace it to the library. This book is a classic example why I never buy a book before I read it, otherwise, it would've been long gone in the recycle bin.
