Designed to offer protection from the elements, yet ventilate extremely well on hot summer days, the Zia 3-Season Tent from Sierra Designs is ideal choice for just about any backcountry adventure from spring through fall. Exceptionally live-able for up to three hikers, the Zia's unique 'x' ridge pole geometry creates a spacious interior with minimal weight and packing bulk. The innovative ‘x’ ridge pole reverses the natural tendency of the tent to arch in towards the top and instead angles out to create additional headroom for un-cramped living. Two opposite side doors allow you to enter/exit the tent without disturbing the other campers, and the fly creates two separate vestibules for differentiated gear storage. The tent's mostly mesh upper side walls allow for stargazing on clear nights while the full coverage rainfly allows you to batten down the hatches when the sky opens up.

Designed to fit perfectly under your Zia 3-person tent, the Fast Pack Footprint adds function, durability, and versatility to your tent. Constructed of durable 1800-millimeter 70D Nylon, the Footprint protects the tent floor from dirt, gravel, and sharp objects while keeping ground moisture out. Easy to use, the lightweight Footprint's Grommet attachments clip directly to the tent body for an effortless, perfect fit. Use the Footprint with the just the tent's rainfly and poles to save up to 30 percent your packing weight when all you need is an ultra-light shelter. No matter which way you use it, the Fast Pack Footprint makes heavy and ill-fitting tarps obsolete, greatly increases the life of your tent's floor, and adds another tool to your fast and light packing arsenal.

This tent has seen me though some seriously windy conditions, although I would recommend that you buy some extra ropes and pegs to stake it down securely.

It is self standing type, unlike my previous Sierra Designs tent, feature I was missing.

After numerous days of research, my husband bought this tent for me for my birthday, 10/10/11 along with other awesome camping gear (Thermarest Neoair Trekker sleeping pads). So we tried it out as soon as he gave it to me a few days earlier. We live in Austin, TX and all of Texas has been in a drought for months and there have also been an abundance of wildfires throughout the state. So of course when we decide to go camping for my birthday the weather decides to get out of control. There was lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and heavy rainfall all throughout the night. I kept hearing the Wizard of Oz tornado scene music in my head. I thought that surely we would have been blown away but we stayed intact and in the morning there was not a drop of rain or condensation inside of the tent. I was amazed. This was a big upgrade for us, switching from a no-air-flow condensation filled Timber Creek Academy tent. If you own a low end tent and have never been quite comfortable camping, then it's time for the upgrade my friend! This tent was put to the test and came out a winner. And it weighs less than my Chihuahua who happens to be the best camping buddy a girl could ever have!

After extensive research, I finally decided on the Sierra Designs Zia 3 Tent. Hands down the most bang for the buck in 3-season, 3-person tents. Set-up was a snap, only about 5 minutes after a much timelier test run in my back yard. But once you've done it, it's a piece of cake. The tent was perfect for 2 people + gear and a dog. I love that the footprint was included. The first night we camped in the Zia, the temps dropped down to 35 degrees. It is the first tent I have ever woken up in, where there was no trace of morning dew, which also helped it seem fairly toasty. Hopefully it will perform as well when it drops below freezing.

I bought this tent for a supported bike tour (our gear was trucked between camping sites). It is well ventilated, easy to set up and take down. We had thunderstorms one evening with 40mph gusts and it stood up well and kept me and everything inside absolutely dry. We had straight line wind gusts another day of camping and it barely moved (with the full rain fly on) while other tents around were completely buckling over. I would definitely recommend this tent for one to two people. As usual, this three person tent would be cramped with three people inside.

I have now used this tent on a number of camping trips, and absolutely love it. I live in New Zealand, and the weather here can be rather unpredictable, so if there is one requirement that I have, it is adaptability to weather changes. This tent has seen me though some seriously windy conditions, although I would recommend that you buy some extra ropes and pegs to stake it down securely. It is light enough to carry in my pack, which makes for great getaways into remote areas. This is superb value for money!

Yes there are a lot of other options out there that are cheaper than sierra designs but if you want a great tent you can't beat this. I got sick of getting wet in the middle of the night or having tent's collapse in the wind, this one works great in all the conditions. The only down side is the stakes that come with the tent, you don't have enough for all the guy outs and they are kinda flimsy but they work until you get better ones. The tent is a little tricky to put up so make sure you try it at home before you try to set it up in the dark. Over all this is a great tent and i'm glad i bought it.

Aluminum poles, 3 person, one piece rainfly/vestibule, lightweight and super cheap. After receiving it, I set the whole thing up, examined the quality, and it seems great so far. It seems to be really tall, considering it isn't a typical A-fame, which is great for those like me that are 6 ft +. It is very easy to set up, it came with a footprint, and has a very low hanging gear loft that's in the way. The tent stakes seem short, but I could not find a better 3 man lightweight tent for the same price.

I have only used this tent for one weekend. Here is my initial review

Pros:
A lot of room in the tent. can get two people plus backpacks inside the tent if needed.
Weight is ok if you split between two people.
Tent is easy to set up after one practice run.
Two vestibules that have usable space.
Comes with a footprint. That is usually extra.
Keeps you dry. No condensation inside.
Stays fairly warm with fly on. Noticable difference between outside and inside tent even with all of the mesh.

Cons:
The tent does not come with enough stakes. They provide 6. You need at least 10 with more for high wind. This is easily fixed by buying more.
The door to the "main" vestibule does not open completely to the top of the tent. This makes it hard to get in or out without ducking or getting your knees dirty. The "small" vestibule does open all the way to the top. I will try using that as the main entrance next time and see if that works better for entering and exiting.

Easy setup but try it first before you go out on the trail. Lightweight and high quality at the same time. Love the two entryways.
