Terrific historical accounting of the formation, development and day-to-day operations of a fascinating railroad. Its historical importance over a long period of time is most interesting. Especially interesting is the fact that the RR yard has become a State Park and features working steam locomotives.

I read this as a child in both school and home. My mother also worked for the Sierra Railway for some time during my youth. There were logging trains that came form Pickering Lumber Company and went through Sonora, California. some of the tracks still exist and are part of Railtown 1897, in Jamestown, California. Reading this book brings back old memories.
