5.0 out of 5 stars NASCAR 3 Rocks!
The improvements made over N2/N99 are outstanding. With 3D video acceleration this sim absolutely rocks! Tire smoke that blinds you, skid marks from wrecks left on the track, up to 1024x768 video resolution, outstanding positional sound (with a 3D sound card...you can actually tell where an opponent is at by the sound of their engine!) New animated flaggers, working...

3.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment!
For anyone who previously owned a copy of Nascar 99, this game is a huge letdown. Many of the game's details are the same. Papyrus and Sierra Sports have again left out some simple things that could make this game one of the best. The pit crew still stands motionless during a pit stop and the ill-sounding whine of an air gun is the only thrill you get while in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars NASCAR 3 Rocks!, January 18, 2000
This review is from: Sierra Sports: NASCAR 3 (CD-ROM)
The improvements made over N2/N99 are outstanding. With 3D video acceleration this sim absolutely rocks! Tire smoke that blinds you, skid marks from wrecks left on the track, up to 1024x768 video resolution, outstanding positional sound (with a 3D sound card...you can actually tell where an opponent is at by the sound of their engine!) New animated flaggers, working caution lights, a sweet looking in car view, the new features in NASCAR 3 really put you "in the car", I feel more immersed in the racing experience than ever before.

If you are running this one in software video mode, then you won't see much difference from the older titles, but if you've got 3D accelerated hardware, you will be amazed. Papyrus/Sierra has a winner with this one, well worth the money.

Bottom line: If someone tells you this is the same old N2/N99, they're not running it with a 3d video card.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Nascar game yet, April 14, 2001
This review is from: Sierra Sports: NASCAR 3 (CD-ROM)
Nascar Racing 3 is a very good simulation of Nascar Racing. Very highly detailed tracks to very real engine sounds. You are able to go into the pit and select right side tires, left sides tires, repair damage, etc. But there is one problem with the AI in the game. The AI is not very realistic. For instance, if I were going around the outside of somebody in a turn they would probably drift up and hit me. Over it is a classic so I recommend you purchase it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game brings out the kid in you, November 13, 2000

This game is designed around realism that the true Nascar fan, and driver are looking for. It's vast amount of options give each skill level a challenge. WARNING: This game is addicting.

Right away, you're going to feel like you're actually on the track. The 3D affects are very good, and the graphics are awesome. Don't consider buying the game though, unless you're going to also purchase a steering wheel, and pedals (sold seperately).

Like any game on the market, there are room for some minor improvements, but don't let that stop you from experiencing the thrill of competing against others on the track. If you feel the need for speed, then this is the game for you. This is definately 5 star fun !

Your spouse and children will hate N3 because you can't stop playing. It's that good. Once you're competent on a particular track (they're all there, except for Daytona), try multiplayer on the internet, and you'll be hooked as I am. The AI for single player races is good, but nothing compares to human opponents. This game is IT, at least until N4 with the modified-GPL physics engine comes out in November.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mole, December 8, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sierra Sports: NASCAR 3 (CD-ROM)
This game is AWESOME. One thing to remember though...it IS a computer game! It is as realistic as any PC based game can be. The speed and handling is extremely realistic. The beauty of this game is that you can set all of the handling properties of your car. Everything from individual tire pressures to trackbar adjustments can be made on your car in the "setup" area. You can even do custom paint schemes for your car. There are some things that take getting used to. Lining up after a yellow-flag is sometimes a challenge, but easy enough to figure out. I highly recommend this game. It will provide you with hours of entertainment!!

4.0 out of 5 stars This game really sparked my interest in NASCAR!, December 30, 2009

This was the first racing sim game I had ever purchased. Playing NASCAR Racing 3 really got me more interested in the sport which caused me to watch it more on TV. I like being able to adjust the cars setup, to see if you can improve on your lap times. I have played this game using only the keyboard, standard steering wheel(no force feedback), and a force feedback steering wheel. To me, it is best played using a force feedback steering wheel. But I must admit that I learned how to adjust my car setup so that I could play it using just the keyboard as the controller only, but some tracks I just could not navigate using the keyboard as the controller.

The one thing that I really don't like about NASCAR Racing 3 is when you lose one or both of you rear tires, it is impossible to get back to the pits. (Unless I just have not figured it out yet.)

For anyone who previously owned a copy of Nascar 99, this game is a huge letdown. Many of the game's details are the same. Papyrus and Sierra Sports have again left out some simple things that could make this game one of the best. The pit crew still stands motionless during a pit stop and the ill-sounding whine of an air gun is the only thrill you get while in the pits. The invisible tow truck that mysteriously pulls your wrecked car around the track is once again present in N3. About the only positive things I have to say about this game are the improved engine sounds, smoothness of driving, and the updated drivers/cars-although this is to be expected with any new game. Nascar 3 is just another typical racing game that doesn't live up to the hype created by the developers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun for about 1 month, December 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sierra Sports: NASCAR 3 (CD-ROM)
This game reminds me of many toys that looked so fun when I was a kid, but when I got them the fun wore off about as fast as the flavor of chewing gum. At first it's fun to experience the feel of navigating around the Nascar tracks and finding the best racing line. Naturally, once you feel you can handle a car reasonably well, you'll want to race. This is where too many programming flaws render the game unenjoyable. The first main difficulty is that it's extremely difficult to judge, even with 3-D graphics, just how close objects are to your car. This difficulty will make ineffective any effort to find a competitive edge by pushing your car to the limit. You will invariably scrape walls and hit other cars, without improving judgement. Likewise, your pit stall is poorly marked, leaving another guessing game as to when to stop. A second major problem is that incorrect and often conflicting information provided by the crew chief and spotter frequently occur. For example, under yellow flag conditions you are told which car to stay behind, although you may hear two or three car numbers in one lap. Additionally, it is often impossible to find the car you are told to stay behind, even when you completely stop and wait for it. Yet, if you do stop and wait, cars that should stay behind you won't. The kicker is that you will receive a black flag penalty for not finding your correct spot in line. These and other problems add up eventually, and you may find yourself more annoyed then amused. I've now owned the product for about a year, and find no more pleasure in playing it. Adding in the cost of the obligatory 'joystick' wheel, this was an expensive lesson learned.
