I had a bigger expectation about this Magnifying Lamp. It tips over and will not stand of its own do to its high. I took the middle part out, since it has 4 parts to screw, but even with being much shorter than before, it still falls over. The heavy black base, is heavy but somehow it is not wide enough to keep the balance for the hole structure . The magnification is little and the light is only on one side. I am not happy to have bought it.

The previous reviewer complained that it would tip over. Yes, it will, but not if you keep the base and the head (magnifier part) pointed in the same general direction. If you move the head too far over then it will be, naturally, out of balance. The key: don't get it out of balance and it will stand up just fine next to a table or a chair. The height, though, could be better, in which case you may want to find something else if the height of the device is going to be an issue for you.

Now, as a magnifier it works great. The only thing I really fault it with is the light on it (white LEDs) could be brighter.

Do I recommend it? Yes, if you need a standalone, portable hands-free magnifier; otherwise, if you don't need it to be standalone or to be portable I would recommend getting one that clamps to the edge of a table/desk AND one that has a brighter light.

description did not show batteries needed to operate,thought it plugged in, And only 3 of the 12 lights worked when received and not very bright. Would not recommend this lamp.
