5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best TB books!
I think this is my second fav TB book next to #2. In this book Serria the orenary colt is the horse star. Serria is a dismal faliure at flat racing and everyone just about given up hope. Everyone but Smantha Mclean that is. She's loved the liver chesnut colt since he was born. After Serria jumps a paddock fence and a huge fallen tree at Whitebrook, Samantha and Tor (...

I think this is my second fav TB book next to #2. In this book Serria the orenary colt is the horse star. Serria is a dismal faliure at flat racing and everyone just about given up hope. Everyone but Smantha Mclean that is. She's loved the liver chesnut colt since he was born. After Serria jumps a paddock fence and a huge fallen tree at Whitebrook, Samantha and Tor ( her boyfriend) set out to trian Serria as a steeplechaser. They really begin to work hard when Mike annoces that Serria may be sold to a breeder in florida. Another big twist is put on the story when Tor, hte colts jockey, breaks his arm and can't ride Serria in his first race. Samantha who knows alomst nothing about jumping must ride the colt to victory or he will be sold (If you're wondering where Pride is he was injured and all this is happening while he is recovering. He does race again though.). Will this unlikely couple make it to the winners circle? REad to find out. I highly recomend this series to all horse lovers. I have all TB books and have been reading this series since 3rd grade.

A Kid's Review
This book was pretty good. There was still racing in it but I dont really apericate jumping. But in Sierras Steeplechase, Samantha McKlean and Tor Nelson, Samanthas good friend find that a horse named Sierra, a chestnut colt has jumped the paddock fence and on the Whitebrook trails. Tor and his father own a jumping stable so he knows his jumpers and sees that Sierra has the potitenal to jump. Since Sierra was bored and wont run on the flat surface of a track, Tor believes Sierra can steeplechase over bush jumpes to the finish. But they got to think guick, Mike Reesse, Ashleighs long time boyfriend and owner of Whitebrook, the famous racing and breeding stable for thoroughbreds. Mike wants to sell Sierra since he wont run on the tack. But Samantha wont give up. One day when Samantha and Tor rode on the trail, Samanthas horse, Sierra bolts and runs for a 5 feet fallen tree. Samantha cant stop Sierra in time so there is only one choice, hold on. But Sierra did more than that, the rebellious colt jumped the fallen tree and still running away with Samantha. Then Samantha and Tor are sure Sierra can be a Steeplechaser. Tor gets permission from Mike to train Sierra ar his fathers jumping stable. Finally after all there hard work has paid off. Sierra is a true Steeplechaser. Finally, Mike gives them permission to enter Sierra in his first Steeplechase. But Tor cant ride cauz he broke his arm and cant ride Sierra in his race. Will Samantha ride Sierra or will they have to scratch him and Mike will sell him?Find out for yourself. If u want an answer or just want to talk, u can find me at Blades60@aol.com

5.0 out of 5 stars love it, August 25, 2005
A Kid's Review
I think this was a great book. I like how they have steeplechaser. It adds something new to the series. I also like how Sammy got to ride him. It was great. I love that Charlie didn't like the idea at first. That's just like him. It was a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another favorite in a series worth saving, February 16, 2005
A Kid's Review
A different sort of Thoroughbred brook that put Steeplechasing in the spotlight. The partnership between Samantha and the rowdy Sierra continues to be one of my ultimate favorites in the series. This is an essential addition to any young equestrian's collection of horsey literature. Unfortunately, Harper Collins has decided to end the series abruptly after #72. With such a dedicated following and online fan base with members from all over the world, this is a classic and beloved series that has inspired many people and provided horse fans with vicarious thrills and adventure. Ashleigh saved Wonder, now it's up to you to help save Thoroughbred. Go to www.whitebrookfarm.com and join the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, January 12, 2005
By
Another one of my favorites. Sierra ranks right up there with Pride as one of my favorite Whitebrook horses. His personality is sooo different from the other horses portrayed in the series, and because of that I find him to be more believable. The frustrations that go with training him are wonderfully written, and I found myself laughing out loud many times at Sierra's antics throughout the course of the book. I want to see some Sierra babies racing, so Thoroughbred MUST continue as a series so that all of the original generation horses can be brought back into the storylines. Thoroughbred can NOT be cancelled!

5.0 out of 5 stars despite what people say..., August 2, 2004
Despite what people say, I personally think this was a very good book. Sierra is a horse being trained as a flat racer. when he fails to show promise, Mike is ready to give up, with a buyer in Florida coming to look Sierra over. Previously Sierra had jumped over the paddock fence while Tor, one of Samantha's friends and jumper coach is over. He see's the potetential of Sierra being a steeplechaser. One day Tor and Samantha are out on the trail and Sierra easily clear a 6 foot fallen tree. Tor and Samantha train Sierra for a local steeplechase for 3 year olds with the intention of Tor riding. When Tor breaks his arm, Samantha must ride Sierra in the gruling 2 mile race. Read this book! It's one of the best. I liked it because my dream is to learn to steeplechase. I also liked how Samantha and Tor worked together to train Sierra

PS. If you like these, also check out the Heartland series.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good book for horse fans., April 7, 2004
A Kid's Review
In this book you meet Sierra, a mischievious colt at Whitebrook farm. Sierra seems to have no potential as a race horse, but Samantha does not want to give up hope. Tor thinks that Sierra will be great at steeplechase so they give it a try. The reason I gave this book four stars was because it was not about horse racing, which was a little disappointing. Also, Pride gets hurt which is sad, and his racing career is threatened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steeplechasing is cool!!, May 7, 1998

In this book, we have a steeplechaser for a star! Pride is injured, and Samantha works with another horse, but she dosn't forget Pride. It's intresting because they're still racing, but jumps too! If you like TB, you really should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific and funny book., November 30, 1998

Sierra's Steeplechase was a funny book. I liked the way Sierra acted up on Samantha and Tor. Sierra definitely showed jumping ability. I'm glad Mike kept Sierra. I'm reading the whole series and this is one of my favorite books in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but not the best, August 30, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sierra's Steeplechase (Thoroughbred) (Paperback)
I do think this book is great, but I've read better(like Samantha's Pride). I love how playful Sierra is,(although Sierra is a girls name) and how much trouble he causes. But I know from previous books that that is not how Mike acts. He's always a lot nicer. And I don't like how the author casts Pride aside to put Sierra in the spotlight. Overall, it's a pretty good book.
