I am impressed by Cecilia Bartoli's personal and musical bravado in researching and performing the Baroque era music of the castrati. As suits the style of the era her performances are extravagant, dramatic and beautiful throughout, allowing Bertoli to flaunt and strut her musical skills through these sometimes overly dramatic works. This free track of Siface's "Come Nave In Mezzo All'onde" while not the most over the top shows the no holds barred approach Bartoli has taken to this music. The music is ironically quite sensuous with Bartoli intentionally throwing down the challenge to all comers for operatic supremacy. The irony of the era was that the thousands of operatic castrati were both the beneficiaries and victims of the sexism of the times.
