Kinda leaky,
By Anne (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sigg Kids Bottle (Sports)
I bought this water bottle after going through several $5 sport-top water bottles that leak all over me when I take a drink. I thought the Sigg would be different - but it's not. Better, yes. Leak-free, no.
But it is pretty. And I like that it's recyclable and not made of plastic. I would probably recommend a Sigg without the sport-top (I'm considering buying a regular top for mine). Update: It turns out I was using the sport top wrong! It's designed so you have to push down on the top to get the water to come out. I had turned the top past its intended position (a place where you don't need to push down to get the water to come out) and that's why it was leaking. Oops. But problem solved - great water bottle.

The bottle is very attractive and elegantly designed. However, I have two criticisms of it. First, while it might not matter to most people, the opening is not large enough to drop a standard size half-moon ice cube in. I use mine with chilled water and it does maintain temperature well enough, but I would prefer to add a few cubes. Secondly, I accidentally knocked my bottle lightly against a trash container at my gym and was surprised that it dented so easily. I have dropped my Nalgene bottle many times and it always survives. The Sigg makes a better pretty addition to a bookcase than a practical bottle for daily use.

FUN Personal Accessory and Water Bottle,
This is an upscale designer water bottle, top of the line, and so much fun. The designs Of Sigg's water bottles are gorgeous, from the plain, solid color bottles, to the ones with intricate designs. They are simply beautiful! I switched from regular plastic water bottles because of health concerns, thinking it would take more work to maintain. These do necessitate regular cleaning (I clean mine every day), but having something so beautiful to drink from makes the cleaning fun. Sort of like my rings, glasses, and watch, I now consider my Sigg personal water bottle a vital accessory, reminding me to drink more water, making a statement about my values, and expressing myself with a special design. Yes, all in a water bottle! Sigg of Switzerland water bottles are very high quality, made of light aluminum on the outside, slightly insulated, and covered with a special powder coat on the inside that prevents any leaching whatsoever, unlike plastic and polycarbonate water bottles. They are light, durable, and perfect for any activity. Well water tastes spectacular in these bottles, just like from the tap. Sigg bottles come with several different types of tops. I bought the screw top because I don't like sports tops, and I don't mind unscrewing the top when I want a drink. It is totally leakproof, which is important to me. The top is pretty and can be hooked onto a carabiner. I get comments on it all the time, "What's that? I love it!" The sports top version is ok; I just am not a fan, as I don't feel like I can get enough water from the little stream from the sports top. However, for convenience, you might prefer it. For children, there is a cap-type top. All are leak-proof. If you are ever unsatisfied with the top, you can buy a screw top separately to fit your Sigg bottle. Sigg makes their personal water bottle in .6L and 1L in this style. I have both. I use the .6L for sports activities because they are smaller. When I won't have to carry the container, I like the larger bottle. Sigg also makes a smaller .3L bottle for children that is a perfect size for young people. You can buy Siggs in alternative sizes too, such as .75L, .4L (for kids), .6L, .5L. You can occasionally find this bottle in the 1.5L size, also. Search Amazon for the perfect size. Pick a style and pattern you like, as this bottle is a personal accessory, and should reflect your style. The colors are vibrant and even prettier than they seem in the pictures on Amazon. They are expensive, but they are so durable that you can plan on them lasting many years. I consider them both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me. Highly recommended. *****

Lovely bottle-too many restrictions,
This review is from: Sigg Lifestyle Loop Top Water Bottle (0.6-Liters) (Sports)
I bought this bottle as a safe and attractive alternative to plastic. I was surprised by all the "don'ts". As for the do not use boiling water or freeze-that makes sense but the "only use ready to drink" item got to me. I use a lot of individual Crystal Light type mixes and I cannot use them in this bottle. Very pricey for what it can deliver.

Super-Fun Personal Accessory, Not Just a Water Bottle,

Even Patagonia Dropped Them,
By
This review is from: Sigg Lifestyle Loop Top Water Bottle (0.6-Liters) (Sports)
When I found out about the BPA deception from SIGG, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I went ahead and shipped back my old bottles to SIGG, at my cost, for an exchange. I have friends who just threw their bottles away because of their distrust of SIGG. Over a month later, I received an e-mail with a gift code to order replacements. The replacement order and customer service was a fiasco. It took several e-mails, phone calls, and over 3 weeks to resolve.
If you aren't aware of the scandal, all SIGG bottles before August of 2008 have BPA liners. When SIGG was asked during that time, if their bottles or liners contained BPA, SIGG reps carefully worded their response to assure the public that their bottles did not. It wasn't until SIGG quietly released their new liners and an investigative report revealed their lie, did SIGG finally come clean. Patagonia, the outdoor company, was lied to in their face by SIGG. Patagonia was so upset by SIGG's deceit, that they returned ALL SIGG bottles, including ones with the new liners, back to SIGG to be recycled. Not only are SIGG bottles not as safe as everyone thought (including Oprah), but the company itself has burned the trust of consumers and retail partners with their deception. Fortunately for us, real BPA-free alternatives do exist. I personally own 2 Camelbak plastic bottles that use the Tritan material, which is BPA-free. If you want metal bottles, Camelbak makes them with medical grade stainless steel. Klean Kanteen also uses medical grade stainless steel but does contain nickel and is also made in China, which apparently a lot of people have a problem with. Personally, I'll be trying the Klean Kanteen bottles soon. Knowing what we know now, I cannot imagine anyone trusting this brand or company again. I certainly am through being a supporter and customer. If you want more information, feel free to Google "SIGG BPA" and you'll be inundated with negative press. The number of articles speaks volumes of the outrage SIGG has caused. Be safe everyone!

I jumped on the "no plastics" bandwagon a few months ago. I bought my two girls Siggs bottles for lunch, park, etc... The bottles are what you would expect. However, my youngest (1 year) chewed the heck out of the PLASTIC mouth piece. Had to replace that. Secondly, they are a PAIN in the butt to clean. If you are like me...occasionally the bottle gets left in the car overnight. They grow mold very quickly and have hard to reach part to clean. I soaked them, boiled them, scrubbed them and finally scraped them clean with a long wood chopstick. So... good product, but buy the cleaner brush (havent tried it) or get ready for some major cleaning sessions.

Super light - beautiful designs - poor bottle top,

I have Spotted Pride design - which is amazing
***Pros*** 1) Deceptively light - I don't think this bottle is any heavier than a plastic bottle. 2) Durable - it has survived being dropped, clanging against the side of a bag, and shoved in all sorts of places without damage to the design - it has under hard use developed a very, very small dent 3) Healthy - no BPA means yay! Well... you get the picture. It's fairly environmentally conscious - and recyclable <<<Cons>>> 1) Opening is very small - cubed ice will not fit 2) Heats up fast 3) Bottle top is beyond abysmal - I love attaching a carabiner to it, but the love ends there. After about a month, mine started leaking if it gets tipped and I have been unsuccessful of finding a replacement locally. They used to be carried at several sporting good stores, but sadly not so frequently around here any more (sigh)

I was looking for the PBA free water bottle and I recently bought two Sigg bottles from Amazon.com on 9/18/09. Unbelievable, they shipped the old ones with shiny coppery-bronze lining. Those bottles were manufactured before August 2008 and the lining has PBA!

BPA-Free, Beautiful Sigg Bottle!,
This is an upscale designer water bottle, top of the line in every way. The designs of Sigg's water bottles are gorgeous--even the plain, solid color bottles are beautiful--but the ones with designs are even better, in my opinion. This is a pretty sunray design done in metallic colors. I switched from regular plastic water bottles because of health concerns, even though I thought a permanent bottle like this would take more work to maintain. These do necessitate regular cleaning (I clean mine every day), but having something so beautiful to drink from makes the cleaning less of a chore. Sort of like my rings, glasses, and watch, I now consider my Sigg personal water bottle a vital accessory, reminding me to drink more water, making a statement about my values, and expressing myself with a special design. They do dent if dropped on a hard surface at a particular angle, but Sigg fans (including me) view this as a type of "seasoning", so that your bottle acquires character. The dents are on the outside layer of the bottle, not the inside layer and so don't interfere with any functionality. Sigg bottles come with several different types of tops. This bottle has a screw top, which I prefer. I don't mind unscrewing the top when I want a drink. It is totally leak proof, which is important to me. The top is pretty and can be hooked onto a carabineer. If you ever lose the top, you can buy them separately. Sigg makes their personal water bottle in many sizes. I use the .6L size as my basic every day size, and keep it in my briefcase. It is a bit too large for my purse, although if you carry a tote it is an ideal size. It is also good for sports activities that require less water, like shorter walks. For my car and other uses I use the larger 1L size. This bottle may seem expensive, but it is so durable that you can plan on it lasting many years. I consider Sigg bottles both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me. Note that Sigg water bottles should not be used to contain boiling water, as this will damage the outer coating. They also cannot be left in the freezer, as it may crack. They can be used for carbonated beverages, if you leave about a half inch of room at the top. Highly recommended. ***** |
