My 4 1/2 year old daughter loves these books as do I. I actually bought all 3 boxed sets. My daughter has watched all the "Meet the Sight Words" DVD's which really were terrific. The books are bright, colorful with large bold black type and the same characters and words from the DVDs.Each book teaches a series of words through repetition within the story. My daughter gets such a sense of accomplishment reading these book and the words she doesn't know, she decodes based on the content of the story and pictures. A must for early readers!!

This early reader series stands out in a field populated with too many poor products. Too often, early readers or phonics sets are filled with words that are not phonetically spelled or are not sight words resulting in a book that is too difficult for the emerging reader. These books are loaded with a handful of basic sight words that are repeated throughout the stories. The rest of the words are either words that can either be easily decoded or inferred from the context or pictures. There are only a few words I have had to just outright tell my daughter. The illustrations are a little uninspired, but they are easily forgiven considering that the text hits the mark. These books work even better when paired with the Meet the Sight Words DVDs.

My kid can read on her own with these books. I purchased the DVD's first so that she would be familiar with her sight words. So when the books came in it was like she already knew how to read. WARNING: Just being able to identify words or remembering sight words does not mean your child knows or understand the concept of reading. Teaching sounds and understanding how words work is very important!
