I purchased this expecting less than I got in terms of performance. Having many years using the governments gear, I didn't expect much, but figured that in a grid-down situation, I'd give my left,....uh,...."eye" to have any sort of night vision, low-end or not.

I was surprised when, as others have stated, it arrived very quickly....within two days. The head harness works and would be acceptable but I chose to do as another guy did and unscrew the mounting plate and JB weld it to a Protec helmet. Just as the other guy stated,...it looks and works well. The helmet is MUCH more stable than the head harness and much more comfortable.

I also bought the same mount for a picatinny rail, that the high-end PVS series uses, which allows me to quickly mount it behind my EO Tech, if I like.

It runs on AA's,...so,...if you've got solar rechargeable AA's then you're starting to roll. I also purchased a variable IR Torch (also rifle mountable) from TNVC which sends a crisp, sharp beam out a tremendous distance. So far, in fact, that the torch outpaces the capabilities, in terms of "recognition distance", of the NV device itself.

This is a very good entry level investment for the concerned citizen. And, the rifle mount and IR Torch are still useful for whenever I can afford to purchase a higher end PVS and this one becomes my extra and/or backup device.

I have plenty of operational military experience using all manner of devices - this is worth the money.

After being used to military PVS-7/14 units...this thing is crap, but probably because that's just Gen-1. Technically it works, but not without an IR light source. The built in illuminator actually glows a visible red. You get a kind of fishbowl effect looking through it and you have to adjust the focus alot. But, it does give you the capability to see in the dark.

For the money, can't beat the ability to see at night. Pair it with an IR spot light and you can see at night at pretty long distance. Throw some starlight or moonlight and you don't need the IR.

No this is not Gen3 but it costs 1/10th of Gen3 and you can still see in the dark.

It showed up much faster than I had anticipated, 2 days before the scheduled delivery date which was cool. I personally dislike the headgear that came with the night vision, the chin plate is square, and it is all around uncomfortable. However, if you're really good at improvising toys, you might want to try what I did. I bought a MICH style combat helmet, detatched the arm-piece from the night vision headgear, and hooked it up to the combat helmet. Now I have what looks like a Rangers helmet with night vision, which would've cost around $3500 to buy essentially the same product. The quality of the monocle is amazing, but an unexpected problem was determining downhills, only looking through one eye takes that ability away.

Let me start by saying I have no military/LEO experience, so there's no real point of reference here. I bought these because I'm one of those crazy people who believes that bad things are coming, and I wanted some form of NV if the lights go out. In my current situation, any of the PVS series NVGs were out. I did as much research as I could on different GEN 1 models out there, and settled on the Sightmark Ghost Hunters. So far, I'm happy with the purchase.

1. Construction is descent. The rubber armor on it is pretty good, but they used plastic screws for the battery housing and to attach the monocle to the head gear. I'll be replacing these with metal hardware.

2. As others have said, unless it is a bright night out, you generally need the IR on. With the IR, I have had pretty good results out to 100yrds or so. For my intended purpose, this is fine. Yes, you can see a dull red glow when the illuminator is on, however, I'm not sure if it is bright enough to give you away. If someone knows what to look for, ok...you may be screwed. But if you are looking out over a distance, in heavy trees or brush, I think you'd be ok.

3. The head gear is usable, but uncomfortable. I'll be attaching it to a helmet, so I'm not really concerned.

4. I bought the weapons mount for this as well. If you have an NV setting on you optic, this can go behind it (closer to your eye). On bolt action, assuming you have the rail space, this fits in front of the scope. It will change point of impact, so be aware of that if you intend to use this for hunting.

5. I like that it takes standard AA batteries.

If there was an option, I'd actually give this product 3 1/2 stars. I do like it, and I'd buy it again, but as you've heard on here before...

I had been wanting a night vision scope for a long time. I saw this one and saw it had a daytime scope mount system ,i couldn't pass up the chance. I haven't used the daylight mount yet so i can't review it but I have used the scope and was completely amazed at the picture I was seeing it was great, i was in the military but not for awhile so I haven't seen or used the new night vision scopes or anything so maybe thats it. But, I was completely happy with it, the only complaint and thats why no 5 stars is the head harness but otherwise its great, I can't say that enough
