Book Description

Sigil January 1, 2002
Samandahl Rey was a loner, a wandering ex-soldier whose sense of responsibility extended only to himself and to his friend, Roiya Sintor – until the Sigil was forced upon him, a brand of vast power that changed his destiny forever. Now the first daughter of Delassia needs his protection, his worst enemy is about to ask for his help, and the entire Planetary Union is depending on Sam to free its citizens from the tyranny of the vile, lizardlike Saurian race. Sam’s about to find he had no idea what the word ‘responsibility’ meant. SIGIL is a panorama of intergalactic fleet actions and strange, alien worlds. CrossGen’s only straight sci-fi series, Sigil is leavened with a spark of humor and romance that sets it apart from your typical space odyssey.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

A former drama major, Barbara Kesel has been in the comic book industry since 1981, when she wrote a Batgirl backup story for Detective Comics while sitting in a tech booth monitoring a college play. Since then she has written for every major comic company as well as served as an editor at DC Comics and worked on almost every DC title, including Watchmen, and developed the DC/TSR line. She then moved on to Dark Horse Comics where she served as editor, then managing editor, and finally as liaison to the Legends line. Somewhere in all this she found time to play with her dogs, do charity work, head fund-raisers, and co-publish her local community newspaper. Now she's just responsible for training new writers and maintaining continuity as well as writing the stories that appear in the titles Meridian, The First, and CrossGen Chronicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great premise for a sci-fi adventure book, October 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sigil v. 1: Mark of Power (Paperback)
Barbara Kesel has a tremendous ability to craft characters in an action-adventure story. Sigil has a truly original and compelling premise and lots of excitement.

Anfd the greater mystery will keep you coming back. Mark Waid's sequel to this book is equally fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Science fiction at its best, July 6, 2003
This review is from: Sigil v. 1: Mark of Power (Paperback)
Barbara Kesel weaves an intricate tale of mysticism and wonder as she reveals the adventure of Sam and and his friends. The story tells of a burnt out ex-solider and "Sam" his friend Roiya as the look to earn money after being realesed from the military. No sooner dose Sam get used to the quiet life that he recieves a Sigil( as is the theme with Crossgen Comics) and releases a powerful blast that levels a city. Trouble ensues as Sam, Roiya and his new found companions Jemirk and Zanni are hunted by the Saurins, a race of man-like lizards, the Human military, and a member of The First. The best part is when Sam takes part in a gladiator battle with a handfull of Raptor-esque creatures. This book is a must have for any comic reader or sci-fi lover.
