A Good Introduction,

This review is from: Sigiriya: City, palace, and royal gardens (Paperback)
Sigiriya, by Senake Bendaranayake, is one of the better introductions to Kasyapa's magnificent 5th century AD Sri Lankan fortress in English. Although it is only 40 pages in length, this is a large-format (8x12) book with valuable aerial photographs and a reliable, up-to-date (1999) text. I only wish that S.B., a very fine scholar of the period, had given us a much longer monograph with many more photographs and a more detailed analysis of the art, archaeology, and hydraulic engineering of this superb ancient site.
