Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX DG IF Aspherical Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR CamerasI am a pro shooter work for several papers and celebrities as well and I take this everywhere.
This is the best lens for the price. I have used this lens on my 1Ds & 30D and performed remarkably. I also Had the same one when I was a Nikon shooter in fact I only had one glass that was not Nikon and this was it. I have never worried about it failing on me at all and it covers the full frame digitals as well as the 1.6x factor. It is sharp as a tack in all ranges for me that is even better than my 28-70 2.8 L series lens from Canon. It is Rough and can take a beating, so if you are looking for a lens that does not cost an arm and a leg and will perform in all conditions this is the one for you in Nikon or Canon.

Even though this lens covers a full-frame, its zoom range is wide enough that it is useful even on a crop camera (60D) on which its EFL is 24-48 mm. With the type of shooting I do, I need a wide angle of 24mm or more, so I'm often using this lens at its widest setting of 15mm.
There is a slight amount of vignetting visible at 15mm, probably less than one stop. In most landscape photos, this effect is quite tolerable, and sometimes even improves the image :-) Not doubt the vignetting is moderated by the fact that a crop camera takes the sweet spot of the lens's field. I am pleased with the sharpness of this lens and its fairly quick autofocus speed. It produces wonderful images with great color. My main plaint: the lens is huge. Even though it has a short focal length range, it is my physically largest lens in diameter and length (I don't have any long telephotos, yet). It is also probably the heaviest due to the huge and bulging front element. But I guess that's the price for good optics. A secondary, relatively minor complaint is that switching from autofocus to manual focus is a two-step procedure: one is a slide switch to engage or disengage the autofocus motor (like on most Canon lenses), and the second requires sliding the front barrel in (to engage the focusing barrel) or out (to disengage it). It's easy, but you have to remember do both.

For being a lens under $400, I am pleasantly surprised by the construction and quality. The sweet point for this lens is f8, knowing that you can get surprisingly good photos even on a full frame. Totally recommended for the price

This is a relatively slow, relatively soft (if you pixel peep wide open shots), relatively flare prone extreme wide angle lens. It works quite well for video on my 5DII.

I just to own this lense and its an owsome lense the image its sharp but you must be very stable to void blurriness or else it become kind of sensitive because it does not have image stabilization but most of the times its your hands for the stability or use a tripot and fix your problems, after all from a short view and large picture its so nice i had to sell it and replaced for a canon 17mm-85mm bacause i take fast and lots of pictures most of the time on those range of mm that one fitted my need. this sigma lense its very nice for an starter photographer to learn more in angles its nice i have a 40D canon as you know its fast and i am fast alson with lenses.
if you plan to take short and wide angles most of the time i recommend this lense on day time and with nice light its brillant and for night time or low light i recommend a good flash to get nice results. |
