Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sigma 28-200mm f3.5-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Minolta Digital SLR Cameras is a compact, high-zoom ratio lens, ideal for full-frame digital SLR cameras. This lens covers all the focal lengths from 28 millimeter wide angle to 200 millimeter telephoto--the most frequently used focal length range. With a maximum diameter of 2.75 inches and length of three inches, this lens is compact and portable enough to be carried anywhere, making it is ideal for travel.

This digitally optimized ultra telephoto lens is equipped with the latest in multi-layer coating technology that reduces both flare and ghosting and ensures an accurate color balance and high definition results. The use of aspherical lens elements in both of the front and rear lens groups effectively compensates for various aberration throughout the entire zoom range. At the 200 millimeter telephoto setting, the lens is capable of macro photography with a 1:3.8 maximum magnification. A zoom lock switch mechanism is provided to prevent the lens from creeping due to its own weight, and to avoid the danger of the lens receiving a shock while it is being carried.

Product Description

This lens covers all the focal lengths from 28mm wide angle to 200mm telephoto, the most frequently used focal length range. With a maximum diameter of 70mm (2.75 in.) and length of 77.7mm (3 in.), it has a compact size. And with a triple-cam internal-focus system, it packs a lot of performance in a compact package. Portable and mobile, the lens can be carried anywhere, so it is ideal for travel and snapshot photography. With 2 aspherical lenses, it has excellent correction for all types of aberration, and it displays a high level of optical ability throughout the entire zoom range. The inner focus system allows the lens to be focused without having to rotate the front of the lens, and the lens accepts a Petal-type hood and it is also easy to use a circular polarizing filter.High-performance zoom lenses, although offering a wide range of use, have one drawback: they are hampered by their size and weight when they have to be carried around. Smaller and lighter lenses are in demand, therefore, especially for travel photography, when space inside a camera bag or hand bag is at a premium. In order to achieve a compact lens, Sigma has combined a high-refractive-index, low-dispersion lens and aspherical lenses. The result is a compact lens only 70mm (approximately 2.70 in.) in diameter and 77.7mm (3 in.) in length. And by equipping the lens with the triple-cam internal-focus system, it achieves high performance in a small package. The aspherical lens contrib

5.0 out of 5 stars sigma lens for sony, February 24, 2007
This review is from: Sigma 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 DG IF Macro Aspherical Lens for Minolta and Sony SLR Cameras (Electronics)
Great lens. Its metal body feels solid, unlike the ones the come with my camera which is made of plastic & feels like a toy. The pictures I took was clearer than the sony lens. The drawback is that it's on the heavy side & the auto focus mechanism is a little slower the the plastic one. All in all, you not only get your money's worth but you get more for your money.

I've not had much time to use this lens, but so far, it has performed very well. Seems to be a little sticky when zooming, but really doesn't interfer with lens operation. I consider it to be an excellent value considering its price vs performance. If I were a professional, I may be more critical, but as of right now, I'm very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars I use this lens a lot!, January 1, 2010

I bought this lens because it was inexpensive. I have a Sony DT 18-200mm lens but wanted another 18 or 28-200mm lens since I have two camera bodies. I really like this zoom focal length since I shoot mostly outdoors and do not want to carry another lens with me. I am pleased with this Sigma lens. I like it better than the Sony lens. I like the build quality, it's small size and weight, and it's performance. What really surprised me was the AF speed (even indoors) and how sharp it is. Now, I don't take it off my a300 very much even when shooting indoor portraits with an external flash. I think it is a wonderful value so that is why I give it 5 stars.
