Two-piece Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and four-piece Aspherical Lenses, produce a high level of optical performance.
The 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 Macro lens feature two-piece Special Low Dispersion SLD glass elements and four-piece aspherical lenses, to produce a high level of optical performance. Aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberration while making a very compact construction possible.
Macro photography with a 1:3 maximum photography ratio
The 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 Macro lens has a minimum focusing distance of 19.7 inches (50 centimeters) at all focal lengths and is equipped with a macro mechanism for close-up photography at 300-millimeter telephoto, with a reproduction ratio of 1:3.
Inner Focus System
This design allows for stability and compactness in design as changes in focus are made in an internal lens grouping. This also gives the advantage of a non rotating front lens assembly which is of great benefit when using polarizing filter and petal-type hood.
The "Zoom Lock" device prevents the zoom setting from being changed inadvertently.
The 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 Macro lens is equipped with a zoom lock to prevent the lens from creeping due to its own weight, and to offer protection whilst the lens is being carried.
DG Lens
These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.

I like the Sigma 28-300 Macro,
By Digital Photographer "Used to Like Nikon,s" (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews I have heard about some incompatibility between Sigma and Canon, but has not happened to me. Recently bought the new Canon Eos Elan 7NE, the Sigma works perfectly with this body too. Optically, yes , there is some distortion at some focal lengths, but nothing really terrible, the color is excellent, it is sharp pretty much all around. Really love the lens. Detractors of this range of lens never discuss what it really does, its like having a whole camera bag full of lens and you are alway ready for anything, that is an enormous plus, and it does what it has to do pretty well, so, if you,re planning on shooting pictures for National Geographic, maybe this is not the lens for you, but if you are a guy or gal who loves photograpy, buy it, you can,t go wrong.

A good hobby lens,
This review is from: Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG IF Macro Aspherical Lens for Pentax and Samsung SLR Cameras (Electronics)
Not a bad buy for $250. The zoom is a little loose, and tends to creep. The zoom lock is a must when in the camera bag. It tends to be it's sharpest in the 28-150 range.

Sigma zoom lens,

This review is from: Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG IF Macro Aspherical Lens for Pentax and Samsung SLR Cameras (Electronics)
Have had other lenses in the past (Tamron) and this lens takes much sharper pictures across the range. This one fits my Pentax and makes shooting easy and fun. Sharp pictures...and better than my Nikon L100 which I love.
