5.0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase
I probably just echo Thomas Summer's comments, but this is a great lens at any price, and in comparison to the cost of the Canon equivalent it is a super value purchase. Even though lens reviews and tests are usually based on just one example, the review in Popular Photography convinced me, and I am glad I made the choice. 3.0 out of 5 stars Sigma Problems
I didn't get this lens from Amazon, but I buy a lot of things from them and it is probably the best forum for review writing. I purchased this lens from a local photography chain in Russia and although it is probably my fault for not checking better in the store there was a serious issue and now I must deal with Sigma's authorized repair facility to get it corrected. Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro Lens (Canon Mount) (Electronics)
My only complaint is I don't really like the dull, "sandblast" finish, but I can live with the cosmetics for the build and lens quality. One feature I really like is that I can use it both on my digital and full frame film camera bodies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb construction, September 29, 2008
This review is from: Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro Lens (Canon Mount) (Electronics)
I tried the Canon 60 macro for a month and it was okay but ended up buying the 70 mm Sigma macro. The extra reach and, IMO, much sturdier build quality decided my purchase. Three other lenses I own are Canon L lenses, so I am critical about lens quality. The Sigma 70 macro is as sharp as a tack. A superb lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars best all around lens i have, July 13, 2008
This review is from: Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro Lens (Canon Mount) (Electronics)
i started using this lens only in close up pictures then i found that i can focus to infinity with it. i use it as an all around lens now. it helps of course that it is a 2.8 lens. the only things i can't shoot with it is for detail in far off picture. still need the ole 70-300 or 50-500 lenses for that.

The problem is that when zoomed out to the 1:1 ratio and the aperture stopped down to maximum or near maximum a lot of dust and fibers are visible on the pictures I take. It appears that this is inside the lens between elements and not on the surface outside. I had to take this to the Sigma authorized repair facility and now must wait several weeks to use my brand-new lens. I also agree that with the front element moving out to focus close that this is a liability with a macro lens. The few images I did take before noticing the problem look great after cleaning up all of the dust in photoshot so I will see what it will do when I finally get it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sigma 70mm F /2.8 EX DG Macro Lens, February 20, 2007
This review is from: Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro Lens (Canon Mount) (Electronics)
I have read a lot of reviews and they all give good marks for the Sigma 70mm lens. In my opinion it's a very good lens I would say it's probably a pro lens. And probably comparable to Canon's 100mm f/2.8 lens. Though some say it's a bit soft at 2.8. Need less to say while I haven't had a lot of time to use it all the pictures I have taken it came out sharp. And at the price its cheep compared to other lens. So if you're looking for an affordable macro lens takes a strong look at this one.
