3.0 out of 5 stars Sigma TS-41 Rotating Tripod Collar, September 18, 2005

This review is from: Sigma TS-41 Tripod Socket (Electronics)
This is a big improvement from the stock tripod collar that came with my Sigma 120-300mm lens. It rotates more smoothly, stands taller allowing better access to the focus ring and is easier to balance with Wimberley or Ballheads. My two complaints are that it should come stock with a $2000 lens and that it is only drilled and tapped for one mounting screw. It's ridiculous to buy a high end lens with a poorly designed mount and then pay more than a hundred dollars more to fix the problem. This is just plain cheap on Sigma's part. My second complaint is that the lens foot is quite long which is good for stability and establishing balance, but it should be tapped for at least two mounting screws to prevent Arca Swiss type plates from rotating in use. My other lenses with long mounting feet are tapped with multiple holes which prevents the plates from rotating during use. There is plenty of room to thread an additional hole, but the foot wasn't designed that way and the recessed metal weight saving design makes it difficult to tap my own mounting hole. I'm not sorry I purchased this, it is definitely an improvement but the design could be improved and this purchase shouldn't be necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars TS-41 tripod socket, August 31, 2008

This is much better than the original socket that comes with the older lens's. The lens is much easier to hand hold and zoom at the same time.
