Returned to factory for repair after 3 days,
By Steve Ford (Dallas, TX, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sigma EF-530 DG ST Electronic Flash for Canon DSLR (Electronics)
The flash under exposed in all pictures. Tried to use it on a Canon Rebel, 300D, and a Canon Rebel XT, 350D. Every picture was under exposed in full auto and programed mode on both cameras. Place where purchased stated that it needed to be sent to Sigma for warranty repair. Have not recieved the unit back from them yet.

Unreliable piece of equipment,

This flash is a real piece of junk. Extremely unreliable. I already sent this into be fixed once because it would constantly freeze up and I had to pull the batteries (and take it off the shoe) to get it to reset. Now it zooms and retracts over and over (unnecessarily) till the motor gets stuck (it doesn't seem to be able to adjust to 105mm position) about 25% of the time I try to use it. What is especially nice is that it is already at 28mm and I have a 28mm lens on the camera, yet it still feels the need to adjust to 105mm then back again for no reason. When it works, it works fine, but it is a really poor quality unit so it doesn't work as often as it does. This is easily the least reliable piece of photo gear I have ever owned. Next time I will spend a little more to get the Canon flash.

Useless,

This is the worst piece of equipement I have ever bought. It only works with film bodies. Using it on a digital body gives you an underexposure of about 2 f-stops. A call to Sigma UK did not help. Another call to Sigma US left me with this message: Oh, it was never meant to work with digital, but you can have it upgraded for 300 US$ + P&P. Thank you very much Sigma - for nothing...
To be fair - it turned out to work with a Canon 10D, but I have tried it on 5 other digital bodies (450D, 500D, 550D, 5D and S5) - all leaving me with very dark photos.

not functional with canon digital,

This flash is not a good fit for canon digital cameras. The canon digital line uses e-ttl (evaluative through the lens metering). This flash only works correctly with standard ttl such as nikon. It is very similar to the flash I have for my 35 mm canon. It works ok for the older film models but not with the newer digital.

I am admittedly a novice photographer, but know enough to recognize a great product when I see one. The Sigma external flash is easy to use, and is priced perfectly for someone who is just beginning. I highly recommend it, and have never been let down by a Sigma product.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Sigma EF-530 DG ST Electronic Flash for Canon DSLR (Electronics)
The title should say it all. I was quite disappointed. When I received my package a few weeks ago, I couldn't wait to try the Sigma flash out. Within minutes I knew the quality just wasnt' there. First I thought my setting were off, rechecked my Canon Rebel & they were right on target. All the shot I had taken were so under developed I knew this flash were going back. I was totally dissatisfied with this flash. I ended up spending a little more money & getting the Canon 580 which I should of purchased from the get go.

I got my sigma dg st today, and i tried it. It is a bad product. Basically the flash come with the camera is stronger than this unit. Every photo i took are underexposed. I received the unit today and returned it back today. Don't waste your time for this unit.
