5.0 out of 5 stars Get the External Viewfinder for your DP-1
Forget about the review that thinks this is overpriced, I think it is a valuable addition to the DP-1 and if you've ever bought pro quality accessories for a Nikon, Leica, etc., this is a bargain.

The quality is very good, it is compact, fits perfectly on the camera -- in short it looks like it belongs there. If you are serious about street or action...

Save your $150. This is a piece of garbage. It's so small, it's difficult to see through it. There is no means to focus when using it other than estimating distance to subject and setting the thumb dial on the camera. Parallax error is so bad and so variable, it is nearly impossible to compose a shot. This product is an insult. Shame on Sigma.

Unlike point and shoot compacts such as Canon etc offerings, the DP1 is designed for photographers. Trying to use the DP1 as a point and shooter will result in the same slowness to focus etc that plagues all compacts. This camera is best used as some Leica owners use Leicas - manually preset focus and be ready for instant use. You should also turn off the lcd and the sleep mode and keep the camera ready to shoot. For this the viewfinder is required. A little expensive but it gets the job done.

4.0 out of 5 stars essential, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Sigma External View Finder for DP1 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
Too often I find viewfinders that are unsympathetic to spectacle wearers, not being able to see the full view/field. Having bought without trying it was a relief to find that yes it is useable with specs, and the whole frame is visible. It would be a little easier to use if it wasn't so tiny though, and the topof the optional; lens hood intrudes into the bottom of the frame/view. 4 stars from me, as I feel if it was larger, and higher off the top plate it would be even better. Still essntial, though the voightlander 28mm viewfinder may just be that extra star better.

Some people don't understand the purpose of an external OVF. Once you use one, you'll know why you want one.

This is a welcome accessory for most photographers. It eliminates using the LCD screen, saves battery life, and in general makes things much faster. Just point and shoot. If I ever get the close up lens attachment I will need to use the screen, but not until.

A little 28 mm fixed jewel that is very bright and crystal clear.
I'm very happy with this addition for the Sigma DP1 camera.

If you're concerned about battery life, an extra battery is less than $30.

Great quality for Sigma, great optical glass and finish. Due to the sluggish/ inaccurate nature of the autofocus I found I still needed to keep looking at the lcd screen to assure the shot was properly executed. Also, when used in conjunction with the lens hood the camera was bulky and I felt it lost some of its portability factor. I would rather use my Leica with accessories if I am going to strut the full rangefinder look...I returned the unit for a refund.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Sigma External View Finder for DP1 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
This over-rated piece of glass should not be $150. That is just ridiculous. I was going to buy the camera, but without the optical viewfinder it's lost some of the appeal. Buying this for $150 is out of the question. Hello Canon!
