Instant Elevators Collection, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Sign of the 3 Eyed Men (Audio CD)
This could be the Holy Grail for psych collectors... You get each of the band's original 3 studio albums. Each of these also has another disc of alternate takes and mixes. Additionally, two live cd's, and two albums of otherwise unreleased songs and versions, some of which is also live, some studio. The sound quality on everything is better than I have heard previously. There is also a book included, and a package of posters, fliers, stickers, a copy of their manager's original business card. It all adds up to a rather overwhelming collection of music by one of the true originators of psychedelic music. I just got mine in the mail yesterday, and I have had a great time digging through assimilating the sights and sounds. My brain is dripping out my ears, and I have had no mind-altering substances except for what is included in the box set..... consciousness has shifted and life may never return to what it was before this trip! Numbered limited edition of 4000. *As of this writing, the amazing collection is currently in print, available at the official International Artists website. If you are interested, check it out, the price (while still in print) is much cheaper than that presently shown here. Price is 75 Pounds sterling (about $150), and worth every penny.

Holy Grail Indeed !!!, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Sign of the 3 Eyed Men (Audio CD)
A big hearty thanks to the previous 4 reviewers of the box set. I had no clue this even existed !! I had been complaining for years about the crappy sounding Elevators CDs I had and stumbled onto this set while perusing Amazon. I looked at the prices ($445 to $585) and said forget it, too much money. Then I read the reviews (the Kevin Rathert one was especially excellent) and headed for the Burning Shed website last Sunday night. I ordered mine, total incl. shipping = 94£, or 157.00 US dollars. It showed up today, 5 days later !!! I was amazed at how heavy the package was, and after opening it I was speechless. 10 CDs, a gorgeous book filled with pics, lyrics, etc., and a large envelope with the International Artists logo containing all kinds of cool flyers, posters, glossies, and even a bumper sticker !! I played "The Psychedelic Sounds Of.." and the sound is awesome. I will be at home tonight listening to "Easter Everywhere" and some of the other discs in the set and going through the book. Like the above reviewers warn, if you want this set, you better act quickly. This is a limited edition of 4000, and I got an EMail this morning from Burning Shed stating "ONLY 500 LEFT... ORDER NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT... AS THERE WILL BE NO REPRESSINGS..." Well, my copy was #3651, so do the math - only 349 left after mine. If you are a 13th Floor Elevator fan, as I have been for almost 40 years, grab this now, or else you'll be paying the big bucks that the speculators here are asking it for. They're going quick !! Believe me, you will NOT be disappointed !! ....And once again, a big THANK YOU to the previous reviewers for alerting me to the availability on the Burning Shed website !!!

I concur with everything P. Pennington says, especially when it comes to purchasing this. It seems to still be in print, it's about 150 bucks, go to the IA website for a short promotional video. I'd just like to add that the box itself is gorgeous, thick, will never fall apart, a work of art unto itself. And the book is worth half the price. It's an lp sized hardcover with glossy pages containing every bit of info on the recordings and the band that you need. It also collects tons of rare photos and posters. The music, is, of course, 10 cds worth of the most amazing rock you have ever heard, with the best sound available. Limited to 4,000 copies. Really, you will kick yourself if this goes out of print before you buy it.
