Simply ENJOYED, January 6, 2010
This review is from: Sign of Seven Trilogy Box Set (Paperback)
If you're looking for something deeper than the teenager YA books - this is it. I've been searching for something sort of grown up & believable but not "old". Well I found what I was looking for in this "30 something" group of 6. Enjoying these smart, young adults and their story was worth my time.
At age ten, a camping trip bonded 3 boys for life. In quaint, small town USA, the evil surfaces every 7 years and these boys, now men, have been fighting It since they were 17. Now, the time has come for the ultimate eruption of evil and now comes the addition of 3 "out of town" females. Without full disclosure, I must say this resourceful group of 6 is believable and, at times, down right hysterical.
3 Men - a hippie lawyer, a home town biz owner and a World gambler.
3 Women - a Paranormal/myth buster writer, a NY, NY store manager & a gypsy type w/ knowledge up the ying yang.
NR wrote in such a way that I could relate to not just one, but all of them. Along w/ the enjoyable characters, add a spin of paranormal evil, folklore, romance, genealogy and mystery and you have one hell of a story. I laughed, felt anxious, at times giggled like a 15yr old and was enthralled with the mysteries. Started with book one and went straight through the end of 3 in less than 2 weeks.
Word of advice - push through the first chapter or two. It didn't impress me at first and then in the end it gets a little crazy w/ alot happening. Other than that - this was a great read for this "40 something" paranormal lovin' Mom!

I have been a NR fan for decades now. And let me tell you - Book 3 was SO awesome! I love her trilogies - but I laughed so hard I cried. You HAVE to read the set: great characters, strong women (who help save the men this time) and such FUN. Loved it!
