This was just aired on cable. I hadn't seen it since the 1980's, and I had forgotten how much fun it was. Please bring it out in DVD, uncut. I want to give it to all my nephews.

Same as above....I recorded a vhs version; the sound was awful and I tossed it, never suspecting that it was irreplaceable! There is a dvd of the Broadway play, but it is sooo hard to see or hear anything. Bring out the film, please!

It's on now at near-DVD quality. Maybe a DVD/blu-ray is now more feasable?

Please, please, please, please, please, please, release the "Pirates of Penzance" MOVIE version on DVD!!! It stars Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt, Rex Smith, and Angela Lansbury. The play version isn't as nice and we all would rather have the movie version, as it is tons better! Thank you.

Might I suggest for Blu-ray fans like myself that you go to, on the bottom of the page is "contact us", then select "home video dvd and Blu-ray" and fill out the form, requesting the title to come out on Blu-ray as well as DVD. Maybe if we all work together they will consider it.

Does anyone know what the phrase Ws Sub Dol means on the product description? Will it play on a standard DVD player?

Silvermoon says:
I'm assuming that
Sub=Subtitles available
Dol= maybe Dolby Surround Sound or something

Again, that's just me assuming

R. Siegel says:
Silvermoon, you're probably right on all of those, unless Universal went out of it's way (which it does not usually do) and mixed the movie for Dolby Digital 5.1. it's always possible, but I believe this was Dolby surround in theaters.

Up for pre-order here on Amazon:-) I want a Blu-ray but since I waited so many years for the DVD, I will settle for that and enjoy it very much. Finally a widescreen version!!!!!! No more watching 1/3 of the musical numbers we can see the rest of the picture (of which almost 2/3 was cut off the sides for VHS, laserdisc and all television broadcasts).
