Biography

MISSION OF BURMA
THE SOUND THE SPEED THE LIGHT

Before, the surprise was that after 20 years of hiatus, the band was just as good as ever. Now, they're even better, more cohesive and confident, louder and funnier, still learning from life and each other, and using that experience to create ever more compelling music.” –Dusted

“As vital and inspirational as ever.” – Pitchfork

"The moment punk turned into art." --Salon.com

Product Description

2008 digitally remastered and expanded two disc (CD + DVD) edition of this album from the seminal Post-Punk outfit. Out of print on CD for years and unavailable on vinyl since the '80s, this debut record is back with remarkable extras, including two unreleased studio tracks, a DVD of concert footage at The Space and The Underground in Boston in 1979 and 1980, and a 32-page booklet with interviews and ephemera.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic post punk dissonance, April 2, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Signals, Calls and Marches (The Definitive Edition plus bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
This has never sounded better, finally some bottom end on these almost lost classics. The DVD, while short and lacking any production value at all is a rare snapshot that completes the picture. Given the fact that this music was just barely appreciated after it had ceased to exist, these documents are the life support that offer a second chance. Based on the evidence here, this stuff was worth the effort. I would think anyone with an appreciation for Sonic Youth, Husker Du or Pere Ubu would enjoy this, then again you'd probably already be on board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great early stuff from 80's post-punk gods, April 4, 2008

The six song EP alone is worth the money. Add the superlative single "Academy Fight Song' b/w "Max Ernst". Throw in two previously unreleased bonus tracks that are both outstanding. Oh, yeah, and a live DVD from their early days. Just turn off American Idol and go buy it already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mission of Burma, The Rat & Signals, Calls and Marches, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Signals, Calls and Marches (The Definitive Edition plus bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Its been 28 years since I seen them on Kenmore Square and every band afterwards has to live up to a new standard in indie and punk music. Yes, they were just like us, and they are still like us. The music still breathes back then against the political foray of the time, and it still remains strong today. They believe in us, all of us, and we do to.

Forget what 2008 brings, they started it all back when. Not whiny, whimpy or stupid. Just straight talk to the head, heart and life. This album set the tone for all of us to remember what was, is and still can be.

Listen to the classics, but really read the words of Devotion and Fame and Fortune. A prelude to where we are today. Ahead of their time and just as relevant to when they slash their guitars in the Rat.

Mission of Burma, the ultimate standard.
