Bowls are 24 oz, big enough to mix food ingredients without spilling on the counter. We have put the bowls in the dishwasher without mishap since they are ceramic. Same goes for brief exposure in the microwave to warm up food. Most bowl sets are stainless steel, eliminating the ability to microwave.

One caveat. Our Pom pup (4 months old) has a tendency to find little things to chew. Sometimes we believe we have the only pup that could literally find a needle in a haystack. Anyway, the bowls are cushioned in the metal frame with 4 small, clear plastic rings that are open so they can slip off. It took our pup 30 seconds to discover that he could remove them, so we did it for him so that he would not swallow them. Once he gets a little older we will replace them. Their removal does not affect the positioning of the bowls in the frame.

I love this black wrought iron stand and the stoneware bowl set. I bought a similiar stand for my ShihTzu Hampshire when he was just a puppy. Hampshire's stand sits square on the floor like the picture I uploaded--number 3.

The stand holds both a water dish and a food dish.

The stand is ideal for puppies, and the ceramic dishes hold about 6 oz. of food and liquid. The stand is approximately 4". It raises the food off the floor for easy feeding.

The stand has rubber gliders to make it more stable. I like this because when Hampshire is eating the stand doesn't slide around on the tile floor. It also prevents scratching the tile.

To make it even more stable, I placed the stand on a cute doggie mat. This prevented food particals from being scattered about--puppies just gobble their food.

After about a year and a half, Hampshire outgrew this small feeder. It is excellent for smaller breeds both pups and adults.

I rated this stand and the dishes 5/5 for stability, style, and the cute factor.

For function, I give it a 2/5 because dogs need to drink a lot of water. So you might want to have an additional reserve dish or crate water bottle to ensure your dog stays well hydrated.

Six oz. of water just simply isn't enough, and you have to keep refilling it constantly. So better to have additional water available for your pet.

To combat this problem, I filled each dish with a different type of food (dry kibble and canned) and I had a seperate larger water dish and crate water bottle so Hampshire would never run short of water.

One bowl is for dry food and the other bowl is for wet food. There is a separate recirculating fountain for the cats water. All of the catfood bowls were too small and shallow and the food would be knocked out every time my cat ate. These bowls provide the extra depth making it much more difficult for my cat to remove food from the bowl.

I will point out that the including plastic pieces that cushion the bowls in place do come off very easily so if you dog, cat, or small child is into eating small things on the floor, I would recommend just removing them and throwing them out. They dont add much support to the bowl anyway.
