God spoke to me through the writings of Brennan Manning. Going through spiritual darkness, myself, it pulled me through to the light. It gives one the revelation of "dying to self", not just to the "wrongs" but to the self-imposed "rights". "The Signature of Jesus" causes one to look deeply inside to evaluate their relationship with the Father through the Son and examine self-centeredness and self-gratification, leading them to renounce such and be carried into living daily grace.

Manning's look at radical discipleship truly changed the way I looked at life as a Christian. There is nothing about the life of Christ which was mediocre. To follow Christ is to live and think radically. Manning paints a masterpiece in proclaiming the mission, responsibility, plight, and discipline of what it means to be a Christ-follower.

I find it appropriate that the most recent review is negative for precisely the reason that Manning writes: Christians would rather "read the map" of Scripture than "visit the place" that Scripture maps out so clearly: authentic, passionate, cross-carrying, self-denying, joy-bearing discipleship.

If you want to live in the world of "theology" - the study OF God - rather than in the kingdom of God where Christians actually live the Word of God that they study, then do not pick up this book.

Brennan's approach is largely "un-Catholic" despite what you may assume of his background.

I highly recommend this book for all Christians who have grown weary of studying God and talking about faith and are now ready to be challenged through the Scriptures to walk with God and live in faith.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) In The Signature of Jesus, Brennan Manning teaches us all what radical discipleship looks like: the Cross of Christ. It is a great book about following Jesus. If your load is heavy and your strength is beginning to fail, I recommend the first thing you do is rest in Jesus' power and strength; then get this book. It'll give you some reasons to get up and keep on keepin on; and in so doing, share not only in the Cross of Christ, but also His overcoming of the world.

This book will challenge you to take up your cross and follow Christ in true discipleship through the sacrifice of Christ. Very profound. Read this only if you want to be moved from your comfortable state of "religion" to a state of unreasonable faith in the Almighty!

Mannings insight into our God's mercy is beyond words. The book changed my life. The chapter celebrating the darkness prepared me for a spiritual battle that occurred in my life. I thank the Lord for Brennan and hope that he continues to listen to God's word and put it into words.

If you've not read The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning, then you need to do so as soon as possible. In it Manning explores Radical Grace.

In The Signature of Jesus, a sequel to The Ragamuffin Gospel, Manning tackles what he calls Radical Discipleship. "Discipleship is our response to grace," he says.

In his numerous letters Paul confirms that to follow Jesus is to take the high road to Calvary. Littered along the Calvary road will lie the skeletons of our egos, the corpses of our fantasies of control, and the shards of self-righteousness, self-indulgent spirituality, and unfreedom." (p. 9).

After reading The Ragamuffin Gospel and now The Signature of Jesus, I can say that Manning gets it. He's right, "Christianity is simpler and grandeur than the commentators and theologians have made it out to be" (p. 47)

This is Manning at his very best. I have given this book many times as gifts to others, always with great reviews. Manning's own deep walk with the Lord shines through this book to every reader.

God is using this book as a benchmark in my spiritual walk. this is something that will stick with me for many years. his views are much like what i think that Jesus would say today.

This book is one of the best books I have read about the simplicity of what Jesus came to teach and how to implement those teachings in daily life.
