5.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet character driven look at being young & pursuing life
I originally watched this series when it debuted in '98 because I adored Scott Bairstow. Only 3 episodes were aired & I have all 3 taped. I happened to have rewatched the show a couple of months ago. I had forgotten all about it until it was mentioned in a special about Jennifer Garner, who I didn't know anything about at the time. When I initially watched the show I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps for teenagers
Perhaps these soppy love stories can entertain teenagers for a while, but I watched this series because I was a fan of Alias and I was sorely disappointed. Don't expect anything like action or good acting in this series.

When I initially watched the show I found the way that the three lead characters (played by Scott Bairstow, Jennifer Garner & Eion Bailey) interacting in a love triangle, to be sweet & adorable. I was a teenager at that time. Now, rewatching it as a woman in my early 20s it has more resonance, because it's also about the characters' journey to find themselves. Campbell Chasin (Eion Bailey) is still looking to carve out a name for himself in a family where everyone else is expected to go into the family business, just like his brother Ben Chasin (Dark Angel's Michael Weatherly) has. Ben is also applauded by his parents, because he is getting married. He seems to have it all together, until we see him with regret at a missed female fling opportunity right after his wedding. Campbell decides that he can make a killing selling children's videos & tries to get either of his friends to go in on it with him. He's also upset, because he discovers that Nell Glennon (Jennifer Garner), one of his best friend's & ex, is now hooking up with his other best friend, Henry Calloway (Scott Bairstow). Nell is an excellent worker who is so afraid of getting stuck in one track for the rest of her life that she actually quits her job after getting promoted. Her major issue is committing to anything. Henry fancies himself a serious writer. However, he has to pay the bills & does so by writing soft core porn. His boss is the slightly older Charlotte (Gigi Rice) whom he lusts after. The first 3 episodes had me intrigued. I'm assuming that this set includes all 6 episodes (the other 3 of which were unaired) & I'd love to see the rest of them. This is also a great price for this set. Snatch them up before the prices inflates.

I watched all six episodes over two nights and was amazed at how entertaining it was. The cast were perfect and the characters were people you cared about. Funny, dramatic, touching, all the elements that make a series memorable. Do youself a favor and buy this series now, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dont give 5 stars to to many movies......., January 15, 2006
This review is from: Significant Others - The Series (DVD)
This series is absolutly fabulous! I never watched this when it was airing because I never heard of it. I didnt hear about it until about a few weeks ago. I will admit the only reason I even bought this was because of Jen Garner and Michael Weatherly. I didnt exspect to fall in love with the characters. After you watch the last episode you will ask yourself over and over again "Why on Earth would such a great series get cancelled?" If you like Dramadys with an awesome cast this series is for you. But be warned if you like this, you will be sad that there is only 6 episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars long overdue, June 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Significant Others - The Series (DVD)
This show came out when I was 24 and meant the world to me. I still remember one scene, I think they were playing pool - to this day when that song comes on the radio I think of this show! I just stumbled across the info on this being released later this summer. I had to reread the title because I could not believe it. For anyone out there who liked/likes the guilty pleasure of shows such as Felicity, Party of 5 (the earlier years), etc...check this out and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. If anyone remembers the show Relativity, I would pay big bucks to see that on DVD next. Fingers crossed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Significant Others - The Series (DVD)
I bought this series because I love all of the actors from more recent series'. I was sadly disappointed. The acting was truly terrible. The only good thing I could glean from watching this series is that I was able to see how all of these actors evolved to become the great actors they are today. Jennifer Garner has grown to become an incredible actress. Michael Weatherly has improved significantly, although I still wouldn't consider him a great actor. Eion Bailey has improved too. If you really want it, buy it for "historical" reasons. Otherwise, don't buy it at all.

I purchased this DVD because Michael Weatherly from NCIS was in it. Very young Michael Weatherly, but he was still a very good actor. I enjoy Jennifer Garner's work as well and she was very good in this too. It is surprising that this show wasn't picked up for another season. Network's never know when they have a classic in the making.

Were the songs changed on this set? If not, can someone give me the soundtrack listing of the show, I can't find it anywhere...
Great series BTW, but I kinda understand why it didn't last too long.

1.0 out of 5 stars Choose something other then this insignificant excuse for a TV show, October 1, 2005
This review is from: Significant Others - The Series (DVD)
Condered by Jennifer Garner to be her own little secret, 'Significant Others' must have had an incredible impact on her life and the lives of its fans. The same cannot be said for me. I first saw Jennifer Garner in 'Alias', and 'Daredevil', and then 'Felicity' and that made me buy 'Alias'. Then I saw this show available and thought I'd give it a try.

There was not one admirable quality to be found in any of these characters or their lives. I couldn't get passed the pilot episode. I don't know how it could have ever been picked up. I'm not at all surprised three episodes got aired. It is a dreadful show. It doesn't matter what order you see the six episodes in, they are still in the same sorry predicament they were in to begin with.

This is a truly insignificant show and I admire anyone who gets any enjoyment out of it. The only good thing I will say is the theme song seemed pretty catchy and the actors have gone on to better things. This series should never have seen the light of day. Television series must not come any worse then this. I wouldn't normally be this harsh on a television series but there are absolutely no others that deserve such a poor rating then 'Significant Others'.
