5.0 out of 5 stars Valueable educational products for kids ever made, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Signing Time Volume 8: The Great Outdoors (DVD)
We were introduced by our son's child care giver. He was 20 months old when he first started with signing time in Daycare. Ever since then he came home signing and singing the melody of the songs from the DVDs. When he started to speak all the alphabets and numbers and words from the books, me and my husband were surprised and happy. When he was two years old, he already knew all the colors, number 1-10 and A to Z in additon to a lot of vocabs. Until today, he watches signing time everyday and continue learning.

We think this is a great fun learning product and we love it!

This is a fun addition to our Signing Time collection. Kids of all ages are fascinated by the things they see outside and this DVD will fascinate them also! My children, ages 20 months - 5 1/2, love this volume and they are excited to "explore my great backyard!". I love the songs, and my kids can't get enough. They listen to the soundtrack daily!

As the mother of twins, one hearing and one deaf, I have had the opportunity to check out many programs for teaching ASL to small children. This is by far the best series out there. Most other products are so boring that parents must struggle to stay awake during the production, and there is no way a toddler would tolerate a viewing. My 2-year-old twins request Signing Time all of the time. At home they want the DVDs playing almost constantly. In the car my hearing daughter starts asking for the Signing Time CD before I even have her strapped into her carseat. My 2-year-old deaf daughter is using 5-sign sentences, which is almost unheard of for the deaf child of hearing parents. My extended family owns a total of 6 sets of Signing Time. Whenever my daughters' cousins have a birthday they ask for the latest Signing Time DVDs. Children of all ages love this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love Signing Time, August 16, 2006

Our school is currently using Signing Time in an after school program to introduce and teach American Sign Language to children ranging in grades K-6. Rachel does a good job of desribing and demonstating the signs. The music and songs create an enjoyable way to reinforce the new signs learned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Caterpillar/Butterfly is the BEST, February 6, 2012

This review is from: Signing Time Volume 8: The Great Outdoors (DVD)
This is part 8 in a wonderful series. My daughter adores the Caterpillar song, and asks for it numerous times through the day--even doing the signs as though she is singing to herself. The rest of the DVD is fun and interesting and includes a host of different signs that are helpful and educational. For some reason the Caterpillar song is by far the one that strikes the best chord with my 21-month old, though. "When the Ants/bugs Come Marching In" is also fun. I can't recommend the series enough--and this particular DVD is top-rated because of the final segment in my opinion, along with the ABC's and counting to 10 (which are both after the final credits, and make the DVD worthy of purchase IMHO).

The Great Outdoors is an excellent video for kids to learn more about sign vocabulary and it especially touches the heart with the final song "I wish I were a butterfly" with an emphasis on special needs kids. The product came right no time and was packaged great. Thanks again, Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ASL, October 27, 2011

We own all the "signing time" video's and my two year old has been watching them since four months old. She is still doing great with the signs, she is not deaf or hard of hearing but I taught her ASL anyway. This outdoors video is one of her favorites!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great videos, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Signing Time Volume 8: The Great Outdoors (DVD)
We borrowed one of these from a friend when my son was about 18 months and he loved it. I'd been trying to teach us signing from a book but once he started watching these videos, he started signing much more words. They are cute and entertaining and he asks for "signing time" all the time now. I get the videos from the library but this would be a great gift (hint hint to the grandparents). I will say the very first video is kind of basic and short but you can tell they were still working on their format and style. They get better as you go. If you search "Signing Time" online you can see how the videos came about and I really appreciate their organic beginnings. It's a very touching story. I'm so happy we discovered these videos!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Our kids love it!, June 7, 2010

Our kids love Signing Time, and we as parents love that they enjoy educational programming that teaches them to communicate with us. Signing Time has made a huge impact on our ability to communicate with our 1-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy, and this really helps to keep tantrums to a minimum since we can understand each other. Volume 8 of Signing Time is great like all of the others!

5.0 out of 5 stars It works!, May 3, 2010

We got this for our grandson for his first birthday because his mom (who signs ASL fluently) had checked out others from the series from our local library. She put them on while she showered and dressed (that precious alone time!) and he loves them. They move quickly, they're colorful, they repeat the signs enough to learn them, the music is catchy, and the signs are accurate.

The proof is in the pudding. He's now 18 months and signs lots of stuff. He is hearing, but he communicated first using sign and, really, I think it's true that kids are less frustrated when they can communicate what they want or need - and speech seems to come later than the ability to sign. So, for whatever reason, if you want your kids to learn ASL (and even you - I love it too), these DVDs are really good.
