5.0 out of 5 stars How To Live In A Bad Neighborhood For Dummies 101, January 22, 2007
This book should be required reading for anyone running for US President in 2008 ;in fact, forget it-regardless of who wins,Yitzhak Shamir-former desperado...whoops,Stern Gang alumni and Prime Minister of Israel(1986-1992) -should be required to be,say a silent partner to whoever is elected.Beginning with the cover photo,'Conversations' portrays Shamir as not only having an effective style in dealing with Israel's enemies, but the record shows,he has the street cred to back up the style. While,I've always measured "leaders" by Menachem Begin,Shamir got my attention by being condemned by former talk show host(and non-maven)Phil Donahue for some classic WWF trash talk about Palestinian murderers,"...like grasshoppers...heads smashed against the boulders and walls.." But,unlike repeated attempts to mollify Arab terrorists by the latest land for peace bargain,Shamir has this to say in answer to Haim Misgav's excellent fill-in-the blank-questioning:(Misgav p.201)"You endorse the formula of "peace in exchange for peace?"(Shamir):"I don't believe in any other formula. Was there ever a succesful international agreement that promised one side "peace" in exchange for "territory?"Did the Czechs receive "peace" in exchange for "territories" they were compelled to give to Hitler?"Peace" in exchange for territory is a compleate absurdity. No such thing exists in the world and no country, for its own good, ever agreed to accept such terms..."
