How to get answers to a puzzle in a world without hearing?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Silence is deadly - in a world of sign language, there's no one to hear cries of terror (Hardcover)
Agents of the Galactic Synthesis were missing on the silent planet of Kamm - possibly destroyed by a death ray. Agent Jan Darzek's mission is to find out the truth & to do so, he is surgically altered to resemble the natives & learns sign language to communicate. He finds a dark, complex sociaty and is unprepared for the difficulties he encounters. Unusual and interesting, but sometimes the hero is "saved" a bit too fortuitously. Nevertheless, a fun and fast, read.

The Silent Planet Has No Music.,
By Betty Burks "Betty Burks" (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silence is Deadly (Paperback)
The aliens took a quantum leap onto the Silent Planet where the beasts had lost their hearing and then their ears, found their prey by smell. Deafness is synonymous with silence only for the deaf. Prolonged exposure to the deadly silence is fatal. As is the silence (dead air) to be avoided at all costs, as the airwaves are worth much money even if the information doled out is outdated or downright false. Her crowning humiliation was by two of them. Be grateful for mistakes that aren't fatal, as sometimes it's possible to learn from them. What followed was rather stupid. The keeper of the secrets and the genuine miracle worker both had feet of clay because of their rather large egoes. I congratulate you on your diligence. A noble aim is important as its achievement will be your masterpiece. Silence is not always golden; hardly ever is except in the song. An excellent craftsman always appreciate a challenge; so does the unwilling victim if she has any opportunity to "tell her tale." The main thing is to survive. |
