beautifully crafted instrumentation,

The six parts seven create the kind of music you long to hear as the sun sets far in the western horizon, the kind of music that allows you to relax and take in the tranquil and serene beauty that most of us have let slip by un-noticed. Very clean melodic guitars interweave while rhythms move subtley behind the gentle sounds. Occasional E-bowed, and peadle steel guitars chime in, as does violin and cello, only to make the music that much more majestic. This is the gentle storm that blows cooly over your head, never becoming too loud or jagged, always smooth and very un-pretentious. This music needs to be heard, people need to listen to this music...

How do you categorize such beautiful music? It is original, yet somehow familiar; memorable, yet it doesn't take over your mind.I started with "Things Shaped in Passing" after hearing a snip of music on the radio. I couldn't wait to get "Everywhere and Right Here", their newest. Now, "Silence Magnifies Sound". Though these albums cover four years of time, the band's sound is consistently superb, song after song after song. What is it like? Ambient? Post-rock? Jazz? Dunno... It has guitar, percussion, perhaps some keyboard and vibes. No vocals. The instrumentation is flawless, yet often surprising and innovative. The melodies are clean and smooth without being self-conscious and overly dramatic (like crescendos of wild guitar riffs or odd harmony). This stuff is gently eye-opening in the morning, refreshing in the afternoon, and soothing in the evening. It's great for all moods, any time of the day. Listen to the clips. It's for real.

some reviewers only review based on the mood their in. You can not give a cd one star just because you think there are too many postrock bands. Would you give a punk band one star just because there are a lot of punk bands? of course not. i hope no one takes that review seriously.this album is solid. highly enjoyable. if you enjoy this type of music and would like to expand your collection from the essential: eits/mogwai/album leaf then i would suggest this.
