I've always loved Yellowstone in Winter. Since 20 years I fly from Germany to Montana to spend several freezing months each year in Yellowstone, because I'm under the spell!!! Reading this book and looking at the absolutely beautiful photos from Tom Murphy makes me want to jump into the next plane and fly to the land of fire and ice.
There are a lot of books out there about Yellowstone, but nothing captures more the magic of silence and solitude than this one.

Exactly what I hoped it would be - beautiful photographs. For someone who enjoys both Yellowstone and the winter season beauty, I recommend this book.

It has been my pleasure to know Tom Murphy for almost a decade. From the time I first saw his work, I knew I was in the presence of a consummate artist who thoroughly knew his subject. Silence & Solitude will finally allow the rest of the world to see the beauty and power of a Yellowstone winter through his eyes. It is poignant, passionate and highly literate in its narration. Enjoy!

These books are amazing. His whole series is gorgeous. If you can't come to Yellowstone personally, you must see them. Even if you can, Murphy is getting photographs of things no one else can see! Just beautiful.

While visiting Grand Tetons & Yellowstone in the summer 06, I picked up Tom Murphy's Silence & Solitude and thumbed thru it at several gift stores. The photography alone made me long for a winter trip to Yellowstone. We just happened to stop in the general store at Fishing Bridge, as Tom was there autographing his wonderful book. I did purchase a copy and had a wonderful conversation with Tom. I do loved looking at the photography over and over. We did make that winter trip to Yellowstone, and what a dream come true. I have wonderful memories and Tom's book to take me back when ever I please. Love this book!

Tom Murphy's photographs and descriptive text make a perfect companion for anyone in love with the beauty of winter. Having been in Yellowstone in the winter, I truly appreciate the skill of this incredible photographer. Tom Murphy has spent endless hours photographing the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the photos that make it into his books are glorious. He is a naturalist as well and he takes you on a trip into the wilderness with his beautiful books.

This book was mentioned on a PBS show (Christmas in Yellowstone). We were intrigued. The book surpassed our expectations! It is so dramatic and beautiful! It also had some photographic tips.

I saw a PBS show documenting one of Tom Murphy's trips into the back country of Yellowstone Park. Periodically during the documentary they showed still photos of his work that I thought were impressive and captured the essence and beauty of the park during the winter. The book is no less awe inspiring and breathtaking. I have never been to Yellowstone but hope to do so one day.

I bought this book for my husband for Christmas and he is very pleased with it. He has hiked extensively in Yellowstone and appreciates the beauty captured by the artist. Would recommend this book for anyone who would like to explore Yellowstone in the winter, but are unable to deal or want to deal with the cold.

Book was in great shape and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a gift for my husband who is an avid outdoorsman and amateur photographer. The technical info Tom provided gave him additional insight into capturing nature shots effectively and dramatically. He has thoroughly enjoyed page after page of these images.
