Voice of an Angel, Lyrics of shear Poetry,
By Dig Scott (Rockport, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silence (Audio CD)
Last night I visited a coffee shop in Austin Texas to hear Tara MacLean perform. There are no words that will adequately convey the tremendous powerful, gentleness of her voice. Tara is extremely gratious to her audience, and performs in a way, that is intimate and invites the listener into her heart and soul. Of course at the end of the show, I purchased her EP "If You See Me" and before leaving Austin, had to stop at a local record shop and purchase her previously released album. My body, heart, and soul were encapsulated by the passion and emotion that she pours into each of her songs (both vocally and lyrically). Tara's music is the kind of music that will bring chills, tears, joy, and hope to the lives of everyone that ''listens'' to her passionate delivery of her gift. Embrace this music, and you will realize all of this and more.

This CD was recormended to me by amazon and i liked the look of it and was not disapointed. If you are into Sarah Mclaclhan you will like this. Although Sarah Mclaclhan may offer more varitey within her music Tara's voice is much her equal. I was more impressed with the last few songs from "holy tears" to "let her feel the rain" the acoustic version. I loved 'for you' and 'let her feel the rain' is an amazing song. Anyone who reads this should buy it as i know that it would be a stong contender for the only cd i would take to the moon if i had to pick one. If anyone knows where i can get her new album please mail me thanks.

Beautiful music,
By Chrissy (Indiana) - See all my reviews

I've had this CD for nearly two years and I still listen to it all the time. Tara has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, and her lyrics are poetic and inspiring. I am also a huge Sarah McLachlan fan and find the two to be somewhat alike. The only reason I didn't give this CD five stars was because the songs tend to be a little bit monotonous. However, they're all gorgeous, especially "Evidence," "That's Me," and "More." If you're looking for an artist who can actually sing (that's unusual these days!) and write lyrics like you've never heard, Tara MacLean is definitely for you. I'd been wondering where Passenger was- I've been waiting since September!- and now I just found out it's only available in Canada. I'm sad. =(

I first heard "Holy Tears" while watching the show "Due South," and I was instantly moved by Tara MacClean's music. I went and sought out first the "Due South" soundtrack, and then her album, buying the last in the store. It hardly ever leaves my CD player now. Her voice is amazing, with its incredible range, and her lyrics relate to just about anyone's life. She has a new song on "Teaching Mrs. Tingle," which I think everyone here should buy. I know I'm going to.

If you love Sara MacLachlan, you will love Tara!,

I first heard her at Lilith Fair and fell in love! Her voice is so pure and crisp, it is almost haunting. Her lyrics are really touching. She has been a big star in Canada for years but it has taken her awhile to gain popularity in the U.S. But if you like singer like Sarah and Dido, you will love Tara MacLean too!

Beautiful, Honest Music,
By Paul (Canada) - See all my reviews

Tara has an absolutely sweet and evocative voice. Her lyrics are honest, straight from the heart.I strongly recommend this and her new CD (Passenger). It is a crime that she is not as well know as she deserves to be. Get the word out: Tara is TERRIFIC!

brilliance in Tara MacLean,

I don't have much to say about this album except that it's perfection. I'm sorry I can't elaborate for you people out there who are considering to buy this album, don't "consider" just buy and you'll understand why most of us are speechless. You will be blown away when you hear her song 'Let Her Feel the Rain' - which the album features two different versions of - choose your favourite. The title track is raw and so vivid, it captures you in a trance. 'For You' is beautiful and 'That's Me' is reflective. 'Red' has a touch of jazz and 'Evidence' is a ground breaking introduction. Amazing.

There are no words...,

There are just no words to describe how beautiful this album is, but I will try to find some. First of all, to each his own, I suppose. Personally, I find nothing wrong with the production. I have listened to/seen Tara MacLean live and I have listened to her albums. I enjoy both equally. I don't understand the reviews that pan the album production. To me each song is truely emotional and you can hear that emotion through the lyrics and the music.Ms. MacLean is a wonderful songwriter. Her words are pure poetry, and her music is very moving. I never found a single song boring. But that may be because I can relate to a lot of her lyrics. Lets not forget the fact that she has the voice of an angel. Just listening to it calms me. I know that sounds corney, but it's true. This is truely a must buy. I've had this album for years and it remains my absolute favorite. Every song is perfect. It's such a shame that Tara is so little know here in the US.

Wonderful, moving music,

I just discovered this album, and it is simply wonderful. Tara's voice sounds at times like Nanci Griffith, at times like Natalie Merchant, but always beautiful. The lyrics are heartfelt. The style is gentle folk, with twinges of country (Tara gets more pop on her later Passenger album); some songs have string arrangements, most have piano and guitar. The songs at times can sound alike but the lyrics give each song it own identity. Buy this album!

much better,

I purchased passage and silence in one fell swoop, and listened to passage first. I didn't like it at all, although one song has grown on me. I don't know if the review I wrote for that will be printed, because I criticized amazon's recommendations for up and coming artists, and I stand by that. the samples of music are so tiny, just enough to sound as though the music could be good, but not enough to really tell, so why bother having them? but I must say this first album is much better than the second. it's still too upbeat, and countryish for my tastes, but it's much more honest, and a lot less sugary. tara maclean has a wonderful voice and I think the potential to create some good music. hope to hear more from her in the future, something with some real substance to it.
