I really enjoy these Mat Helm spy thrillers. They are a great quick read. I think that they are better than Fleming James Bond series.

Three and a half stars, really., April 9, 2011
If you like Matt Helm, you'll like this one. The protagonist's voice and thoughts are well-written--he's always an interesting character (considering these are action/spy genre stories), and this is another quick-moving one with interesting twists/wrinkles and action. Throughout, the story leaves the reader a little "lost", even more so than in the previous Matt Helm books, and the plot is interesting but maybe not quite as solid as in the previous books. Maybe it's a nice change of pace, though (and I'm pretty sure it was an intentional stylistic choice). It seems kind of lacking, from a certain angle, but at the same time it really IS hard to see what's coming--and in that sense, it maybe outshines a lot of other great books in this genre.
Some of the bad guys in this one aren't the baddest, but the woman is a little bit of a nice surprise.
This book completely deserves four stars, but I think there are other four-star Matt Helm stories that are a little better. And if someone gave it three stars, I'd completely understand. This is the fourth Matt Helm book, and I'd say it's the fourth best out of those--and it's pretty good. My message to anybody reading through the series is that this one is not at all skippable, nor is it at all "disappointing", really.
