Geskia's Silent 77 album is one of the best pieces of electronic music that I have found that has been released in 2008. The production is very clean and tasteful with synthesizers that remind me of some of my favorite Boards of Canada melodies, which are mixed in along with the tepid percussive thumbs and buzzing of sounds reminiscent of some of Telefon Tel Aviv's earlier works. At the same time, there are many abrasively crunchy sounds to accompany the sweet pad sounds. Silent 77 has an underlying downtempo theme, but don't be so quick to call categorize it as Instrumental Hip Hop. In my opinion this album is IDM / Experimental. Some of the tracks resembles some of Lusine's work, namely selected downtempo tracks from Serial Hodgepodge. Other tracks have hauntingly beautiful vocal samples that remind me of some of Morr Music's more emotionally charged samplists like Radical Face and Komeit. This album is a fusion of many of the best emerging styles in electronic music today. 5 Stars and two thumbs up!
