Book Description

November 7, 2010
Birth mothers are often the forgotten or ignored part of the adoption triad. This collection of literary essays seeks to correct the imbalance by publishing personal stories by birth mothers, adoptive mothers, and adoptees. The stories cover a range of topics about adoption, open adoption, birth parent connections, and unification with children after closed adoption, focusing on the relationship with birth mothers. An anthology of essays by, for, and about birth parents.

To give up your child for adoption is something that changes your life forever. "Silent Embrace: Perspectives on Birth and Adoption" is a collection of essays from Ann & Amanda Angel's termed adoption triad, the birth mother, those who adopt, and the adopted. From stories of mothers pondering what could have been, what adoption can do for children and families, as well as birth mothers finding their lost children and the virtues of both closed and open adoption, "Silent Embrace" is a thoughtful collection with much to think about for any mother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! November 3, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was really moved by this book and it was such an easy read! The different stories and perspectives were great at outlining all of the different reasons why a woman would make such a choice, and how it can impact a person down the line from each side of that decision. I admire the women who were so honest in sharing their personal stories...this is something that is generally not publically done. I have many in my life who were touched by adoption and this helped me to understand them all the more. I have given this book to two key people in my life because they need to read this. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming! November 3, 2010
Format:Paperback
I found this book so heart-warming and pure in its honesty and openness. The incredible insight and the wide variety of experiences helped shed light on a topic not always openly discussed. I applaud each of the contributing writers for sharing their stories with the world. Though I have no personal experience with adoption, I'm surrounded by family and friends that have experiences and their own stories to share. The heartache and joy of the stories left me craving more from each story. I read the book cover to cover in one night and I know that I will revisit some of the stories at different times in my life. Thank you to all the writers for your willingness to give a voice to the Silent Embrace.
