But now that he is Dead, Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him but he will not return to me (2 Samuel 12:23)

Almost 200,000 couples in America each year suffer through the tragedy of miscarriage. And that statistic only tells us about first trimester miscarriages. The emotional pain of longer-term miscarriages, and the untold numbers of mothers and fathers who keep silent about their hurt, make this form of child loss especially cruel.

But in Silent Grief , author Clara Hinton brings a clear message of hope through the cold mourning. Writing of her own grief, and interviewing scores of women and men, she offers not pat answers, but instead show us this: You are not alone.

Additionally, the author touches the tears of other forms of child loss: stillbirth, missing children, and adult children who succumb to accident or illness.

The moving, honest responses to these interviews tells the reader that through the tears and rage and awful silence, God still loves us and knows our children intimately. King David knew this. He knew that one day he would reunited with his child.

I have read this book several times and it has helped me tremendously. I have had 4 losses of my own (still waiting for that litttle one) and can attest how immense the grief is. I have read others books on miscarriage but this is the first one that truly expresses the emotions and thoughts one has as they go through this very difficult time. The author does a great job accurately expressing the different aspects of child loss. What helped me the most was knowing that there were others out there that had the same thoughts I did. There is something about reading other's experiences that helps heals one's heart. Everytime I hear of someone who just had a miscarriage, I run out and buy them this book. It truly offers comfort, insight and hope. God has carried me through so much and He used this book to speak to that part of me that hurt so much! It truly speaks from the heart.

This book is the best book I've read since I lost my baby five months ago. I read it for the first time right after losing our first child, and parts of it helped me right away and other parts prepared me for what was ahead in the grieving process. I just read it again, and it amazed me at how true everything Clara Hinton wrote was. It is one thing to read about what might happen, but another to read about what has happened, and for it to be so exactly right on. Miscarriage is a big deal, regardless of what anyone will tell you, and you have to let yourself go through the entire grieving process to heal. Clara, through her own tragic experiences as well as through her accounts of countless other parents' tragedies, tells the truth about what to expect and what to do with the feelings and pain that will inevitably come with losing a precious child, no matter the child's age. I absolutely loved this book, and I am ordering another today for a friend who just lost her first baby, too. This book is also a VERY good book for friends and family members who would like to better understand the grief the parents are going through. I'd give this 10 stars if I could!

I wish I could give it more than five stars!! A tremendous book on coping with the loss of a child not yet born. This kind of loss is like a stolen promise, the promise of life for another. My own feelings, as a husband have been suppressed to be strong for my wife, this book has help me to greive and return to my God and my wife a whole man. My understanding of why we experienced the loss allowed me not to be bitter toward my Lord, but I was still angry, now the anger has melted away. Clara, thank you for your honesty and transperancy.
