5.0 out of 5 stars True comfort for those who grieve!!!
I have read this book several times and it has helped me tremendously. I have had 4 losses of my own (still waiting for that litttle one) and can attest how immense the grief is. I have read others books on miscarriage but this is the first one that truly expresses the emotions and thoughts one has as they go through this very difficult time. The author does a great...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book
This book talks about all types of loss, from miscarriages to the death of a child. It is a very good book if you are looking for a general book on grief and loss. If you are looking for a book which main focus is about miscarriage, I would not recommend this book. Also at times the author does discuss faith and using faith to find your way through the darkness which...

This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
I have read this book several times and it has helped me tremendously. I have had 4 losses of my own (still waiting for that litttle one) and can attest how immense the grief is. I have read others books on miscarriage but this is the first one that truly expresses the emotions and thoughts one has as they go through this very difficult time. The author does a great job accurately expressing the different aspects of child loss. What helped me the most was knowing that there were others out there that had the same thoughts I did. There is something about reading other's experiences that helps heals one's heart. Everytime I hear of someone who just had a miscarriage, I run out and buy them this book. It truly offers comfort, insight and hope. God has carried me through so much and He used this book to speak to that part of me that hurt so much! It truly speaks from the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on child loss, hands down!, March 26, 2001
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
This book is the best book I've read since I lost my baby five months ago. I read it for the first time right after losing our first child, and parts of it helped me right away and other parts prepared me for what was ahead in the grieving process. I just read it again, and it amazed me at how true everything Clara Hinton wrote was. It is one thing to read about what might happen, but another to read about what has happened, and for it to be so exactly right on. Miscarriage is a big deal, regardless of what anyone will tell you, and you have to let yourself go through the entire grieving process to heal. Clara, through her own tragic experiences as well as through her accounts of countless other parents' tragedies, tells the truth about what to expect and what to do with the feelings and pain that will inevitably come with losing a precious child, no matter the child's age. I absolutely loved this book, and I am ordering another today for a friend who just lost her first baby, too. This book is also a VERY good book for friends and family members who would like to better understand the grief the parents are going through. I'd give this 10 stars if I could!

5.0 out of 5 stars Help with coping with a stolen promise, June 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
I wish I could give it more than five stars!! A tremendous book on coping with the loss of a child not yet born. This kind of loss is like a stolen promise, the promise of life for another. My own feelings, as a husband have been suppressed to be strong for my wife, this book has help me to greive and return to my God and my wife a whole man. My understanding of why we experienced the loss allowed me not to be bitter toward my Lord, but I was still angry, now the anger has melted away. Clara, thank you for your honesty and transperancy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone who has lost a child, June 24, 2004

This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
It has been more than a year since my husband and I suffered a miscarriage after struggling with infertility. I was fortunate to have found the silent grief website and this book soon after this devastating experience. Those who have suffered an early pregnancy loss know that very few people begin to understand the pain, let alone, are able to comfort us. This book was the only one on the subject that healed my spirit. As someone who knows, first hand, the pain of pregnancy loss, Clara Hinton articulates so well all the feelings a mother experiences. Most importantly, this book will help you understand why others don't seem to share your pain, why your spouse will express grief differently, and how to cope through it all. If you have lost a child, this book is a must read. The author is a strong Christian woman; therefore, the book makes a lot of references to Scripture (a warning for those who don't share the Christian faith).

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Change Your Life, November 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
Nobody can imagine what it is like to have a miscarriage or to lose a child. Friends may try to help you with nice little sayings or with cards, but they just don't understand what you are going through. And that is where this book comes in...

The author has gone through child loss and several miscarriages herself, so she actually knows what a grieving person is feeling. She helps the readers realize that they are not going crazy if they are feeling grief days, weeks, or months after the loss.

Hinton is an authority on this topic of grief and child loss, as can be seen from the thousands of people that visit her website (named after her book) daily for advice and encouragement.

This book has helped me more than I could ever express. As I read the book, I felt like the author was right beside me, encouraging me along the way. Parts of the book are difficult to read - as it brings forth so many painful memories and feelings. However, it helps the healing process so much.

I cannot say enough about this book. It is a MUST READ for anyone - man or woman - that has gone through the loss of a child or a miscarriage. Your only regret after buying this book will be that you didn't buy the book much sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book ever to deal with child loss., May 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
I am one of Clara's 11 children and proud of it! She wanted to write this book to help those who have lost children in all various ways. She wants people to realize that even though it seems like you are greiving alone, you are by no means alone in your loss. Having gone through many losses herself, she put 150% into this book to capture her feelings on paper and for MANY nights she would sleep for only 1 hour and spend the rest writing. She did capture her feelings on paper and I have a much, much greater idea of what people are going through but I still don't have any idea what it would be like to personally lose a child. She gets onto the level of those who have lost children and gives them hope through this book. It made me cry many tears for those of you who have lost children. I hope you find much encouragement through this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have lost a child this book is the only one you'll ever need, July 7, 2007
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
Silent Grief by Clara Hinton

When the subject of miscarriage, or child loss of any type comes up; why do people just try and avoid talking about what happened? Doctors, friends, and even family that are supposed to be there through everything to support you can even seem to turn you away, only saying two words that break your heart, "I'm Sorry." When you need comfort and consoling more now than ever, it seems like you're left all alone to grieve by yourself.

Just looking to find a way to help mothers, fathers, or anyone who has suffered from child loss; Clara Hinton writes about her own experiences. Going from the pain of miscarriages to still birth and beyond, Ms. Hilton explains how to turn to God as he will always be there to comfort you when no one else seems to care.

I needed tissues while reading this book. I have also had a miscarriage and it tore me apart. I constantly blamed myself for not being able to carry the child and felt that I had let my husband down. It is just a part of the grieving period and now that I have read Silent Grief, I feel a little more at peace knowing that there have been people in the same situation. Blaming yourself and silently cursing God for the death of your child is natural actually, but if you continue to have faith in Him then your life will turn out as it should be.

Anyone man or woman, should read this book if you've suffered through child loss of any kind. It is written with hands of experience and love that can help you through one of the toughest times in your life. I honestly wish I had this book through my "dark time" as I call it because it would have helped me so much.
This book will remain on my keeper shelf and I will gladly recommend it to anyone that could use a friend in their time of need. Ms. Hinton gets 5 hearts and huge hugs from me!

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Ready To Shed Some Tears, September 13, 2008
This review is from: Silent Grief: Miscarriage-Child Loss: Finding Your Way Through the Darkness (Paperback)
Often those who have not experienced a miscarriage do not understand the trauma involved. Often, those who have lost an unborn child are ridiculed for the loss and grief they feel and are not allowed to fully grieve. This book opens the flood gates to shedding tears, and helps one walk a path to healing.

The two chapters I really appreciate are dealing with the words, "I'm Sorry" and "Nobody Cares." How often after a loss have we hated to hear "I'm Sorry" and longed to hear them at the same time? How often have we so desperately wanted someone to reach out to us, because we didn't have the strength to reach out to them? Somehow, she has managed to offer reassurance and comfort with these two aspects of grief.

This was required reading for a class I took. I was deeply moved by it. She shared her intermost feelings telling about her own grief and her own loss. She was also a guest speaker at this class. Clara Hinton is such a warm and caring person. Even if you haven't suffered the loss of a child this book can help you to help those that did. It made me cry, I truly had felt her loss. She really needs to go on the Oprah show.
