5.0 out of 5 stars The best score of the series, after SH 2, of course!, January 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silent Hill 4: The Room - Original Soundtrack [Audio CD] (Audio CD)
The tracks on SH 4 are superb, dark and mysterious like the others and with the same industrial undertone.
I believe that this score and SH 2 are the best in the series. The other 2 ( SH 1 and 3) are both great, but SH 1 is more noises and SH 3 doesn't have the same depth ( its a little too 'pop musicy').
I don't know the exact names of the two tracks I like the best on this score, but one is a dark lullabye and the other is featured in the game when the protagonist comes out of the hole and is confronted by his neighbor about how she can't go with him back to his room, and she didn't see him go through the hole, he just disappeared. The song is also featured in the behind the scenes in the Silent Hill movie dvd.
Get this score and SH 2, as they are both fantastic and a great addition to any silent hill fan's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the most interesting music i've heard, August 20, 2008

This review is from: Silent Hill 4: The Room - Original Soundtrack [Audio CD] (Audio CD)
Akira Yamaoka is a musical legend. He is a master at fitting a soundtrack to dark and haunting visuals...and, without the visuals, you still have the effect. I do play the games, but i've nearly become more of a fan of the composer.

The music in this soundtrack is more in your face and straight to the point. This soundtrack isnt filled with the same old orchestral arrangements and cliche'd sounds. Some tracks (like "Confinement" and "Remodeling") are in your face, telling you to feel fear. Other tracks (like "Resting Comfortably" and "Pulsating Ambience") create a gloomy atmosphere, yet is still highly enjoyable to listen to at home, on the train, basically anywhere.

To put it simply, this album should be bought by people who listen to experimental and ambient music. If you're refusing to buy this simply because it's the soundtrack to a game and it might feel a bit nerdy, just ignore these thoughts. I listen to a wide range of hardcore punk, reggae, doom metal, funk, jazz, blues, etc, and this in my opinion is one of the greatest collection of songs i've ever come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hwavenly sounds, grating gates; driving cars through surreal fates, May 24, 2010

Aside from being something created in the Silent Hill universe (and the sounds of the game are Silent hill, even if the game itself is debateable by many - myself included), this has some songs on it that are more than just haunting and beautiful. As you travel the world of Silent Hill, almost everything is added to by the music that is there.
But vocals - that's a rare thing in this place.

Considering the fact that I could count the songs that have had vocals on them on one hand, i was surprised by this album and the output here. Equally impressive is just how grand the songs are - UI really wanted them more than I wanted the sountrack and that is an odd thing. This is not meant to say the soundtrack is not good because it really is - Silent Hill is known for taking something and making something etheral. Still, vocals just haven't been a big gig in the games.

The list of the songs is "Tender Sugar", "your Rain, "room of Angel," and Waiting for You." They all are deeply melodic and they all carry you, making you appeciate how they fall. In the past I might have thought this was wrong, but the addition of on song "Letters" in the last album really made me think twice.
It also made me want this inside the soundtrack.

If you are wondering about your buy here, you should know this is Silent Jill. The sounds of the game and the album are the same, barring a few turns here and there. If you like this then you'll like the album and, if not - maybe try on the vocal sounds and then leave it at that.
Personally I like these sets, knowing just how good they are.

It is a personal thing, however - you like it or you do not.

This is great soundtrack. 2nd in all the Silent Hill soundtracks behind the perfect Silent Hill 2 soundtrack. Room of Angel is an amazing song, I cant stop listening to it. Akira Yamaoka is a genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice soundtrack!, August 28, 2010
This review is from: Silent Hill 4: The Room - Original Soundtrack [Audio CD] (Audio CD)
Silent Hill 4 was not, IMO, one of the better SH games, but the soundtrack, by Akira Yamaoka, is entirely worthwhile. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is here too for a couple songs. If you like creepy atmospheric music, give this a listen.

If you love the game, you have to own the soundtrack. It will give you that creepy vibe of the game for them times when you can't play it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely stunning!, September 5, 2006
This review is from: Silent Hill 4: The Room - Original Soundtrack [Audio CD] (Audio CD)
Akira Yamaoka is a musical genius. His use of sound and sense of emotion is incredible, very few artists show such mastery over their craft. His music is haunting and yet very delightful to listen to. Highly recommended!

This cd is great for either the silent hill fan or person trying to create a dark atmosphere in their home. Perfect for Halloween! I actually bought this cd for a party but liked it so much that sometimes I put it on while studying or working. If you want to preview the music there are some good videos on youtube that you can find by searching by song title.
