Book Description

Silent Hill 2 October 11, 2005
This blood-soaked volume collects IDW Publishing's three chilling one-shots based on Silent Hill, the smash-hit Konami videogame series. In "Among the Damned," a young, guilt-ridden soldier meets a doomed soul that will either change his life or end it. In "Paint It Black," a painter finds his dark muse in Silent Hill, until a group of cheerleaders arrive and the attacks begin. "The Grinning Man" tells the tale of the terrifying title character, who faces off against a State Trooper one day away from retirement.

1.0 out of 5 stars SH Fans - At least it's cheaper than buying the individual books, December 30, 2005

This review is from: Silent Hill: Three Bloody Tales (Silent Hill 2) (v. 2) (Paperback)
Three Bloody Tales collects the three aborted failures of SH comic writer, Scott Ciencin, into a $20 book printed on good paper.

There's no extras, no explanations of what he or artists Shaun Thomas and Nick Stakal were going for. It's just a straight reprint of the overpriced TPBs.

The best of the three stories was Grinning Man, and only because it offended me the least. I love Silent Hill, and the psychological/magical theories that make it such an interesting story locale, but these three stories are simply insulting.

Poorly written, poorly drawn and overpriced.

Hopefully, IDW will put a bullet in this sick dog before it infects someone else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did Anyone from IDW Actually Play the SH Games?, January 6, 2006
This review is from: Silent Hill: Three Bloody Tales (Silent Hill 2) (v. 2) (Paperback)
Tome Wilson's review highlighted the substantial issues. The stories held none of the psychological depth and sinister subtlety fans expect from the SH series. All three tales contained no real connection to SH, though they obviously tried. Familiar denizens gave cameo appearances, however, one of the recurring monsters looked more like a creature from "The Suffering."

I originally bought Volume 2 because of its price compared to the three stand alone novels, in addition to my being a fan of the games. I'm glad I didn't waste any more money than necessary. If I knew then what a disappointment these stories were, I would've saved my cash.

I strongly recommend SH fans to pass on this book. It doesn't live up to the series, contains obscure/poorly done artwork, and offers nothing to justify its price.

4.0 out of 5 stars the first 2 parts are good, the art in the 3rd is baad, October 2, 2010

well, i heard nothing but bad reviews for this so i figured the usual would happen... i would keep my expectations low and discard the whining from fan-atics and like it. and that's pretty much true. the art in the third story arch was so bad that i just zipped through it but the art by scott thomas in the first 2 parts is cool. the stories have their highs and lows but i dare anyone to come up with a full silent hill experience in a 50 page comic. and they do kind of follow a silent hill progression: you meet creatures which seem shaped by your own "issues" (as well as a few that are just odd), you have weapons but you don't prevail by fighting, you are never sure if what is happening really is or if you're dead, dreaming, or whatever... someone might seem to die then be alive again and you have to decide for yourself what it means... and then there is usually a surprise ending. thats silent hill.
