5.0 out of 5 stars First Soundtrack of SIlent Hill ever listened to. Loved it!!, April 20, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Silent Hill V.3 (Audio CD)
Although, there may be better soundtracks out there, I think that Akira Yamaoka is awesome at what he makes. His music is so thinkable, you could put his songs into every situation, besides the Silent Hill games. The soundtrack includes most of the songs from the Silent Hill 3 game also with a remix of the song "I Want Love" (which is like three times longer than the original song, which is better!) with a few songs containing vocals but most are instrumental. If you're a fan of the Silent Hill series for quite some time, I recommend this. People who are not familiar to the games won't be like me (I listen to the whole soundtrack each day) because after I recognized the songs in the game to the soundtrack, I started to like them more.

Time to go buy the Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack. I hear it's greater than this one, but I'll see for myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense.... Scary... And Some Extra Stuff Too, July 11, 2008
This review is from: Silent Hill V.3 (Audio CD)
Out of the four soundtracks thus far in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill 3 often gets downplayed and overlooked in the shadows of its melodically pleasant predecessor Silent Hill 2 and its musically innovative younger sibling Silent Hill 4. The fact is that Silent Hill 3 is actually a great soundtrack, and easily holds a competitive slot for best in the series.

This was my first SH soundtrack (got it with the game) and I was definitely surprised at how much I liked it, especially since I had yet to develop a taste for game scores at the time. It starts of with "Lost Carol", a beautiful, yet very haunting melody that genuinely might creep you out if in the right environment. Its followed up directly afterwards by the opening theme of the game, which is this hard rock type ballad that you kinda don't see coming, and I honestly wish they left it off the CD.

Up until the last few tracks, there is a consistent feel of eeriness in every song, but not like the cheesy horror movie type crap. Akira Yamaoka has a good ear for beautiful music, and he blends ambient sounds seamlessly with the instrumentals to make a unique type of sound found only in SH. Its hard to explain, you'd have to listen to understand.

My only beef with this one is the talking woman throughout the soundtrack. Yes, it helps stay true to the game, but its still kind of annoying at times. Like the track "Sun", its a wonderful sounding track with the music by itself, but its spoiled by the narration of the woman about a twisted Genesis story. Still, I find myself listening to that track a lot simply for the music, and I block her out.

The closing songs on the CD are kinda whack to me, and I skip them all the time. But they're different, so you may or may not like them depending on your tastes. This is a great soundtrack, and should never be overlooked when looking for good music. a solid 5/5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than a bootleg, March 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's cheaper and much better quality than a bootleg cd which most sellers are selling now. A lot of the songs are pretty good, some you'll just not want to ever listen to...ever. You're Not Here is one of the best songs on there, it's the title song for Silent Hill 3. "Songs" like number 22 are actually just a recording of someone talking and track one is just wailing, seriously.

Might as well just buy all the songs since its cheaper.

This album is cross genre. A mixture of narrative poetry, modern orchestrations, and avant garde techno. I personally adore it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vocals amidst the Darkness, May 5, 2009

If you've let Silent Hill take a stroll through your mind, you know what it means to truly feel a soundtrack. All the components that make up every little motion coupling with each touch of terror and every frightful movement of fingertips and hesitation - its a beautiful thing to walk through a horror ovie and find yourself wondering "why am I doing this to myself?" It is even more perfect to take the same feeling and remember the taste of impact as you recollect the motions via a soundtrack, plummeting deeper and deeper into the remembered chaos as a everything comes rushing back.
These soundtracks are built beautifully, urstling leaves fromt rees long since gone and almost forgotten.

Aside from the soundtrack pieces themselves are the gifts you find on Silent Hill3 and Silent Hill 4 as well, with both containing music that really captures the feeling of The Hill. Mary E. McGlynn (AKA Melissa Williamson) does vocals on these two soundtracks, and the work she does - let's just say it is above and beyond. If you really want to know what I am talking about, listen to Letter - From the Lost Days, a song that captures every goosebump that Silent Hill has ever brought to the surface, and listen to the way she sounds when she sings. There is beauty there - a perfect page torn from the perfect platform - and her songs do not stop here. she also sings You're Not Here, and I Want Love (there are two versions on this album). Letters alone sold me on her talent, and combined with the melodic overtones that are cast into those blue skies she makes this a perfect buy.

If you are looking at this and wondering if you should purchase the product, you are mroe than likely a SH fan. The music you covet is here, too, and you will want this. The one thing that sets it apart from the other soundtracks is the vocal pieces, which also capture The Hill and add something perfect to a wonderful mixture of what you want and/or need depending on your level of Hill Addiction.
Regardless, this is a perfect buy for you (downloaded is the best way if you ask me)and should not be passed up because of a fear of it sounding like other soundtracks. All the SH soundtracks are one-of-a-kind, and all of them are essential. Recommended highly.

Undoubtedly one of the best video game soundtracks out there.

From the rock-out riffs of "You're Not Here" to the pensive tones of "Breeze in Monochrome Night", this album oozes with atmosphere, emotion, and quality. There's not a song on here that I'm dissatisfied with. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark, stylistic music.

..And I kid you not, it played it my car for about three months straight. It is THE perfect driving music.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best game soundtracks since Halo, May 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Hill V.3 (Audio CD)
I have rarely played the Silent Hill games, but just listening to the soundtrack made me want to play them. It's so good I listened to it three times over the first day I was given it. Hopefully I'll be able to buy the full version, the one I have is the shorter one that came with the game. Fan of Silent Hill or not, this is an awesome soundtrack. It's creepy and sometimes even melancholy.
